An idea for a possible Jax Gameplay Update

I had this idea about Jax awhile back, since he is the Grandmaster at Arms. Imagine Jax having his own real upgradeable weapons at the store, similar to Vik's HexCore, or Gangplanks ult upgrades. However, Jax can only purchase one of these items. Maybe a Broadsword that grants AD. A Trident that grants attack speed. A Bo Staff that grants AP. A bow that makes him ranged? Or even a magical lamppost that increases his armor and magic resist. It could anything really.

His skills would likely stay the same but the rest of your build is heavily influenced by which of these weapons you purchase. I feel it'd be a cool idea and really encourage build diversity.

Change the items from real weapons to Lampost, Fishing Rod, Spatula, and a throwing potato for ranged.

Could be a fun way to help players express their skill with the champion. I'd love to see if an ADC Jax with the bow item could work!

The whole thing with Jax is that because he's so good, he can beat you with things that weren't even meant to be weapons.

I like that idea, you could do a lot of cool stuff with it and could potentially free up Jax to do more than just being a late game split pusher.

Please don't ruin Jax with a gimmick like this

Sounds great as an idea, but absolutely a balance nightmare. I like the theme, but he shouldn't get 'options'. He should have a linear upgrade path for his weapon. How about, when he hits lvl 6, 11, 16, on his back he can upgrade his weapon to give him bonus stats. It fits with his theme, and fits with his current scaling in-game: decent in early game, but shines in the late game.

How about, a rocket launcher?

Jax's lamppost has been deemed overpowered and replaced by a rocket launcher. All of Jax's abilities are now ranged and blow things up.

Now off the topic of non-memes, I think if they ever get to that fighter rework (please give us a fighter rework, but also fix adc items as a seperate thing), I think they better consult the guy who's kinda the best Jax in NA to make sure Jax is really super and viable again when doing a rework of him.

Jax is handicapped with a lamp post as a weapon, because otherwise he would be too overpowered. Instead of tridents and bows, give him a pipe and a fishing rod. Edit: I just remembered he has an Angler skin. I was thinking that a fishing rod would make sense with his passive's icon.

Great in theory, difficult in reality. They tried simular things before and they never worked.

...nope. Yep. I want this now. Riot. Make it happen.

But when being real honest wouldn't AD(c) Jax be a bit broken? You have an autoattack empowerer in a pretty short duration when the W is maxed out, he has a gapcloser(Q) for when needed to catch up or jump away onto allies. Not to mention he will be able to dodge auto attacks which botlane is mostly relieant on.

I'd rather if all of Jax's "weapons" were random object like his signature lamp-post to put even more emphasis on the fact that he is a martial prodigy and doesn't need a "real" warrior's tool to defeat his opponents.

I think this would actually be cool as all hell. As much as it SEEMS like it would be a mess to balance, for some reason I feel they could do it. If you make him dependent on these items, then you don't need to worry about balancing a kit with some tagged on buffs, but rather a kit dependent on his individual items.

I mean the only reason I assume that is because it works in smite.

Ranged Jax... Oh god...

Instead of it being like Viktor's shop, it could be like Kalista's spear. So there are a bunch of different weapons in the fountain and you click on one to do a short channel and switch weapons.

Why not have his skills change what weapon he uses? Example: q is a fishing rod where he hooks the ground rooting who he hits for a second and pulling himself to that location then he gains attack range until exiting combat or using a different skill non ult skill (he can just hit the ground to move but has a longer cd if he does like gragas e)

W is a lamppost item with an aoe damage that slows infront/around him and causes a splash damage and heal until he leaves combat or uses a different non ult skill

E is a makeshift sword and shield type weapon (barrel bottem and broken stick) causes him to block all attacks from one direction (braum wall) and then stuns after 1.5 seconds in a cone in front of the shield then he gets puts a bleed on someone every 3rd hit until he leaves combat or uses a non ult skill

R gives him all 3 passive effects and amplifies them for x seconds

If anyone else posted this it wouldve gotten downvoted to the next dimension

I think some serious change in playstyle is better than just being some stat stick. Broadsword can affect his passive to not grant stacking attack speed, but rather apply a stacking armor shred (is this thematic? idk), trident can give improve his three hit passive on ultimate, bo staff can make his empowered autoattack also AoE, etc.

If you wanted to go really in-depth, you could change his abilities based on item as well. Or, since that would require basically designing 4 champions, change some of the specifics of the abilities.

One thing people have pointed out is that Jax's lamppost is iconic. If it were me, I'd focus on channeling the use of other weapons through faux weapons like a lamppost. Like using a lamppost as a staff or sword or something. He's still nerfed in unvierse, but is also still the grandmaster; so good he can fight with a lamppost.

FantasySniper4/2/2017, 12:35:15 AM1 votes

Giving him real weapons kind of defeats the purpose of his gimmick, though.
