Melee AP mid vs ADC

There have been topics similar to this discussion but they apparently don't address my particular problems. There have been two games where I played as Katarina mid against a Lucian. In both games, lucian severely limited my cs by poking me from a distance. If I were to All-In him at level 3, I could beat him (based on my calculations). But then you have to consider the minion aggro and also the fact that he can run back to the turret and simply kite me. What should I do in this situation?

Lucian is particularly good against melees like Katarina, who is already very weak in lane. Don't try to allin him unless you jungler comes, as he can just dash away. instead, try to get last hits with your Q and stay even in lane until 6, when you can start allin-ing if he stays in lane while low health. Your goal is to stay alive and get gold/exp.

The problem is that I can't farm because he pokes me so much.

If i'm only farming with my q, I'm screwing myself over...it has a 10 second cooldown. There doesn't seem to be a good solution here.

hmmmm.....so does this mean that katarina should not picked unless you know who is going mid?

as any melee assassin mid, you need to understand that the primary resource you NEED to get from minions isn't gold. It's experience. You get denied 4/6 minions in each wave? That's not so great, but as long as you're in exp range, it's not the end of the world, either. If you keep up in levels, then at the time you hit 6 you can either beat him in an all-in, or call for your jungler to hold your lane so you can roam and get gold that way. If the deny is as heavy as I just described, it's going to be hard to catch up in gold, but kat has a reasonably easy time getting 4/6 minions rather than 2/6, which means you shouldn't be too behind when you hit 6

You buy doran's shield and wait for him to push so he can be ganked. Melee can't win 1v1 midlane against ADCs.
