Elise is a champion that's just decent at everything. The reason people like to take her is that she can do a good full first clear and still have hp to gank afterwards. You can build her from Glass cannon into full tank, I personally like a sort of bruiser build.
More or less the most powerful stat on her is Magic Penetration. She has two % hp damage abilities that scale by additional percentages based on her AP. My builds will often contain items such as
because they're the most effective offensive items for a solo queue environment.
is supposed to be a pretty good item due to the amount of HP it provides, while still having solid AP and the passive effect synergizes well with Liandry's.
I imagine the reason they suggested Elise is that she's good at everything. Solid clear, strong ganks if you hit cocoon, decent damage, solid counter jungling, not too hard on mana, she also makes a decent split pusher because with her spiderlings and skittering frenzy she can tear down towers in seconds.
As far as tips with her, you can jump over the dragon and baron pit using Rappel. You can utilize your spiderlings to tank jungle camps, just be careful to swap the aggro so as to not let them die too quickly. When ganking think of your cocoon in the same way that you would a Lee Sin Q, if you miss the cocoon, it's usually best to not try and continue with the gank. Don't forget that your spider form abilities don't have mana costs so you should utilize them as much as possible for clearing. With proper amounts of Magic Penetration built in, you can typically out duel anyone. Finally I'd only suggest playing her into games where you have a super scaling laner of some sort. Hyper Carry or like a Katarina or something really strong, preferably AD based so your damage is still largely relevant on the way.
Elise typically works best with a tanky magic penetration build. I typically run the following setup with her:
You want to build Sorcerer Shoes and Haunting Guise early game, followed by the Juggernaut enchantment. After this, I would recommend building defensive items (Randuin's Omen, Locket of the Iron Solari, and Frozen Heart are good choices). Late game, you can build a Void Staff and sell Haunting Guise for another defensive item.
If you need more damage, you can build some AP defensive items (
etc), but I prefer the defenses.
When ganking with Red Buff or Chilling Smite, make sure you slow your enemy before using your Cocoon to make it easier to land. Even if the enemy laner sees you coming for a gank, you can usually hit them with a Q and W before you leave to help your ally.
Elise isn't that strong atm. Try Wukong, J4, Fiddle and etc. Those will win you games.
if you are going to junge make sure you have smite and
Ill tell you something. Just wait for the free rotation. You shouldn't rush yourself. You'll end up with all champs eventually and if you don't have some of them than wait a week. You might get lucky. Plus don't listen to your friend as much as you should listen to yourself. Start watching yourself to see your own play stile. Ask yourself If you could be any champ who would you be. Than play that champ as you would if you were them.
Since others covered tips ill just vote, YES.
Elise is the best champion ever, ever.*
(*individual mileage may vary)
She has pretty poor AP scaling, so a lot of people just build her tank and rely on her base damages. Don't expect to have a lot of impact apart from your stuns late game though, no matter how you build.
In fact, if anyone knows a way to make Elise last better into late, I'd appreciate you sharing your builds.
