I'd need a second top lanner..

..For when Shen is picked or countered. So I was thinking Yorick , since apparently he's his Number 1 counter. And since he's underplayed, if I decided to go with him against shen's counters, it could work too since they might never have laned against him. However, a friend o' mine who plays Yorick a bunch told me he was nigh-useless if he got behind in lane and wasn't great in teamfights either, if the main AA-based teamate was behind. He suggested me to pick Maokai , however he didn't know how did he do against Shen , his counters and other toplaners in general. So here I am, asking your opinion and knowledge on those champions, and maybe suggesting others if you think i'd prefer, do better, etc. with them.

Gnar is good, because he can be ridiculously behind but still be able to influence the entirety of a teamfight. He also has ranged AAs and long range poke/CS with his Q, which prevents him getting too far behind in any case.

Top tier picks right now that fill top laner roles are Irelia Hecarim Gnar

You're not even answering my question .3. Guess that's what I get for putting a title that isn't 100% my subject..

Mao is fine, but boring as fuck. Try Vlad to counter Shen yourself. Or try Malphite in order to wreck team fights.

fact is, mao and yorick are both bad picks for the current meta, Yorick is just plain out bad after the nerfs, and Maokai can be okay but the job he does can be done by other lanes much better. Playing against shen? playing something that dislodges him, dont try to kill him, shove him in and roam before he roams on you. Play something that can stop him from ulting, and play something that scales, if worse comes to worse vs shen just play nasus with teleport, outscale and teleport when he does.

Play jarvan iv, and learn how to make good teleports.

Basicly you can outlane Shen, just dont try to kill him, hurt him so he stays away from the minions and he can only last hit mostly with Q. He is then always pushed, you outcs him that way, you build full AD and ward correctly your bush. You will embrace the current assassin jungle meta and one shot combo a coming jungler even before your shen can think bout doing anything.

My most played champ is vladimir, yes he counters him hard like mega says. I just dont favor AP top in soloQ unless your mid is AD. ADs punish harder death and bad roams by pushing and destroying turrets. Its also harder to itemized vs a successful AD team

I have vlad. Tried to play him a bunch of times in ranked, but just like Viktor, I'm only good in normals with him. Granted - most times I picked him, the ennemy picked riven, so I had a disadvantage.. Still, though, I'd rather not use him again, mostly because I know I can't use him to his maximum potential - and somehow I still blow up late game, where he's supposed to be an absolute beast.

So to counter Shen with... Most champions, you guys are suggesting to put him low, shove and roam (with tp?) ? I'm not sure I get it - he's got nice sustain and not bad pushing. Is it so he can't make full use of his ultimate?

Jarvan could be a good idea, but there seems to be something that seems to be setting me... Off, yet I can't put my finger on it. What is he good at in lane, what does he do that others can't? Etc etc.
