Ryze players, looking for some help!

So, I know people say ryze is shit now and dont play him ( i hear it almost every game) BUT i love his playstyle! Honestly, i like the chilling at the beginning to farm because i get to learn how my opponent plays and what their tendencies are, then just going HAM urf mode lol. But im having trouble making the most of his monstrous late game, I can never seem to have my passive up at the exact right time and for some reason cant make the permaroot work. So, im basically just asking for any tips or tricks to playing ryze that are worth knowing. thanks for any help!

Do you play with quickcast enabled? Because that is an absolute must for Ryze.

I think ryze top is actually really strong as long as you have time to scale, what's pretty important is the use of your q to prepare your passive before team-fights, its pretty useful to have your passive really close to being up so if the fight happens you can just pop your ult and start spamming them abilities in team-fights. Honestly a lot of the time using your flash aggressively in team-fights to get onto their carries and blow them up is pretty key, as once you get into that late game you can do massive damage, and eliminating a threat instantly is pretty great, and since usually as ryze you're getting pretty tanky you can be that initiator and you can use your ult to heal up when there's a bunch of people on you, good luck with your ryze games :D
