Unable to Play Bruisers/ Melee/ Assassins?

I don't understand why, but I'm am completely incapable of playing melee champions, especially in top lane. Does anyone have any tips? I think I have 70-80 games total with Irelia and 17% win rate.

I usually try to balance cs and roaming, though I usually end up dying with little to no contribution in fights. I can't really avoid the role if I'm placed in top/ jungle so... tips would be appreciated.

It's highly dependent on the lane what you want to be doing. Remember top lane is mostly irrelevent to the early game but ends up being your splitpush or offtank by mid-late game in a lot of scenarios, you have to understand each champ's kit and how they're used most effectively, when their respective powerspikes come, and what role you best fit at each stage of the game.

I would suggest trying someone with a simpler kit than irelia, like Garen, Darius or Rek'Sai. With a simple kit you can focus on the basics like ability ranges (both allied and enemy), proper trading at close range, and minion wave management. Once you have a good foundation to work off of you should be more than ready for a trial and error approach with more complex champions.

Bring teleport and never leave top lane unless its to help in a teamfight/secure dragon. Irelia works well as a split pusher because of how strong her kit is in 1v1 combat. Take advantage of this and youll help your team immensely.

Split pushing does require good map awareness and warding though. Knowing when to teleport into a teamfight to help win it or when a fight is a lost cause and getting a tower is more helpful is important, and if you have a strong enough ward game you should never find yourself in a bad situation.

Alright heres a tip for 1v1 top melee vs melee...

Watch your minions health and when they move up to last hit it start auto attacking them. This makes it so that they can't hit you back right away because they are already attacking. When doing this back off if you get too much creep aggro and step into the bush to drop aggro. Learn to abuse the bush when fighting too because if it's not warded you have the jump on them because they have to face check you. I won a lot of close fights by doing that or even flashing into the bush to buy a second for a cool down.

You probably know this but just in case there's a trick that Irelia can do to win trades a lot of the time. If you see them standing next to one of their minions that is low you can Q onto it (resetting the cool down on Q) and W + E them. This makes it so if they try to run or use a leap away you can still gap close onto them with Q. And if you get really fancy you can Q in and W+E and then Q away from them to another minion taking no damage in return.

Hope that helped a little :3

You can try Nasus top lane and just farm with Q and 2 shot towers. A good Nasus is a nightmare to deal with.
