Learning to play without screen lock?

I wanted to ask for help on how to break the habit I formed right away when starting to play league a few years back. It felt instantly more comfortable to have the screen locked (per-side offset). I'm wondering on a tip or trick to try and break this habit. I know it is more viable for map awareness to have a free screen. (I find myself unlocking to try and last hit dragon/baron from the enemy) but then I'm right back to locked on and I feel like I can't get out of it. Any ideas?

Hover your thumb over spacebar. When you need to focus your champion press down. Wander with mouse

just bind unlock to a key and switch between the two constantly

You only need it unlocked if you are scanning the map to observe teammates, or you are landing a skill shot. For the most part I leave it locked to my character when playing except for the situations I just previously mentioned. I have my controls set where I press space bar to unlock and press it again to lock. Easy and simple.

My personal recommendation is to play Xerath . His Q range is long enough that you pretty much have to play unlocked if you want to see a max range target at the top or bottom of your screen, and his ultimate is of a far enough range that if you use it while screen locked you're vastly wasting your potential.

It will be hard at first, just be ready to hit spacebar to get back to your champion. You will loose yourself in teamfights from time to time, it happens even when you're experienced with unlocked camera, but with Xerath ideally you shouldn't be in the center of the teamfight to begin with.
