Team comp knowledge ranked 5v5 players should know (silver elo and up)
How to build your team comp Team compositions are probably one of the best ways to win games besides creating a soloQ team based off the meta. A comp could work together to wombo combo deal the necessary damage needed to cc the enemy champions and beat them in the teamfights. There are many Team comps that work and I will explain them, but first, let me explain the three most dominant and seen comps:
Protect the ADC - The whole composition is based on peeling for the adc so they can kill your enemies
Burst Comp - A team comp who is made to deal damage to an entire team totally and kill them immediately
Hybrid comp - A team comp easily built together but hard to coordinate. consists of alot of burst damage/cc and Prioritization
These three compositions all work, but they aren't an automatic victory for two reasons: The enemy team has built a comp to counter yours The enemy has a true counter comp, which is a team of successful counter engages.
Counter engages work off of the enemy engage. Whenever your ally charges in with a gap closer or another type of engage, it takes a few seconds respectively to get into position. The counter engage takes advantage of this vulnerability to find a way to attack your carries. Most of the time, counter engages involve a lot of cc, and they must be coordinated well and understand how they will counter your engage
Although the above team comps are really simple, there is another one that focuses on the positioning completely, and i call it the lockdown comp. The lockdown comp is a team composition made to CC the entire team, but not made to burst them. instead, it is made to effect their ability to engage and counter engage, giving you free kills. This comp focuses on positioning greatly because even the slightest mess up in positions would mess up the lockdown comp, thus giving the enemy team the advantage. A good lockdown comp for example would be:
Varus ADC, Annie (Support), Sejuani jungle, Nasus top, and Karthus mid
Although a team without many escapes, it is a team that scales all game and has the right amount of cc to lock you down to take you out. The early game is relatively weak, but team fights could be an easy win if played effectively.
Now with all the comps being a big deal, what does it mean to NOT have a comp? Well, a team without a comp is a team of soloQ champions and players. it isn't a bad thing, but a comp ALWAYS wins against a team without one if played appropriately. it isn't hard to win the team fights, but it isn't easy to win lane. a team w/o a comp is built upon basic champions to counter you, but it isn't built with the thought to counter all of you. I would consider this "comp" to be necessary in soloQ, but not in ranked 5s or 3s.
Thank you for reading, hope i explained a few things well. please comment and let me know what you think :)
