Op is simply stating that he needs help, because he is getting poked down, and doesn't know what to do. So with what he said it was implied to me that op was being too aggressive hence why I said let your support initiate the trades, because if you are getting poked down in lane your obviously over extending, and/or being out of position.
I don't care what a diamond trainer says. CS is more important than anything. You are a carry, and carries need gold. If you are simply trying to harrass, and put too much pressure without CSing then you will get punished for it, and in the end you will be behind cs.
Supports are their to protect the carries. Let the carries farm, and harass if the carry is getting harassed. The ADC simply will not start any trades because that is simply idiotic to do so. Now I am not saying that ADC's just sit in lane, and farm. Yes pressure is important, and lane dominance is important as well.
Laning is just a simple mind game to be honest. Once you know what your opponent is trying to do than you can adapt on the fly, and go for the outplays, and trades. Honestly it just takes practice.
When laning as an AD wait for your support to initiate the fights. For instance if your support throws down some hard cc on the enemy AD then as graves E into one of them, and take the trade. Always keep an eye on your minion health, and their minion health, and try and poke when they are out of position. Also start punishing them. If they have a thresh support, and you dodge a hook, punish that thresh for missing it, and auto attack him a couple of times. As graves your E is basically your life savor in lane. It has a pretty long cool down, so only use it offensively if you know that you will win the trade, or get a kill.
Most supports have skill shots for their poke. If you can learn to dodge those skill shots then you will be able to win lane 90% of the time. If you can not dodge the poke, then just play passively farm under turret until your jungler comes to gank, or you can punish them for being to aggressive. As an AD as long as you have decent farm, and know how to position yourself in team fights you should be able to win the game even if you lost lane.
To sum it up for you. CS is more important than anything. DO NOT miss cs just to trade/poke. Wait for your supp to begin the trades. Punish them for missing skillshots, and being out of position. If your getting zoned play passive until your jungler comes.
You also want to avoid fighting in big creep waves, because auto attacking in the wave will draw minion Afro, and minions hurt!
one thing about adc is that its rather easy to get back when you get low in levels. the main thing is stay consistant as you can in farm. request that you play with a tanky support and request ganks from the jungle. another good way of solving this problem is by playing bot games and figure out which items give you extra good like part of statik shiv does. i hope this helps. if you wish to add me on the pvp i have no problem with that and i can try and helpp you out. queen1991991991
Look at Craykes comment. I +1'd it and I think it's very helpful. Otherwise know this; Graves is a pretty short range champ when it comes to auto attack range. Playing against longer range champs like Caitlyn will be a pain, but you need to keep behind your minions. Positioning: some champs have abilities that stop at whoever gets hit, while others pierce through. With Caitlyn as an example, you must remain mobile when you farm, as her q will still hit even if you have multiple minions in the way. Some moves, like Leona's Q(?) takes her straight to the targeted champion, so STAY MOBILE. Initiating: Let your support do that, or your jungler if he's there for a gank. Few champs have moves that allow them to initiate a team fight (Ashe's ult counts as one), so make sure that you don't go in if the support doesn't. Graves' Q has solid range, so use that to poke behind the minion wave. Otherwise, stay safe and farm.
This is just my how I play as Graves and you should probably just take this playstyle as a reference... Graves is a burst champion, not poke. His burst makes him strong in lane, well yes even against a Caitlyn most part. For every start of the game, I tell my (melee) supports (with relic shield) to last hit some minions and hit level 2 before enemy laners, you're 100% hitting level 2 before enemy laner if your support has relic shield. Hit level 2 first = free combat stats At start of laning phase, I usually try to auto enemy laners, doesn't matter which one, but it's better if it's the ADC. If we hit level 2 first, I immediately E and buckshot enemy laners, since if they wanna trade with us (if they're level 1), they'll lose the trade since they don't have the free combat stats that me and my support have. Also, enemy laner usually runs like a pussy if you're playing aggressive (well pre-3 minutes because enemy jungler would be doing camps and no one would be ganking me).
Graves power spike: level 3 (2 points on Q and 1 on E), level 6. Absolutely ask your support to initiate if you are 6. Graves and Trist has the greatest burst at level 6. Caitlyn on the other hand... Really poke-oriented, so that's that.
Usually, your supports initiate unless you're laning with passive supports that requires YOU to go aggressive first - Janna/Soraka. Soraka - u tradin', my bby? IMMA HEAL U Janna - ayyyy it seems like ur trading, let me shield you with my AD steroid shield!
heres some advice that I received from a diamond trainer. first thing do not wait on ur support to set up kills and pressure, you have to put just as much pressure as ur support does. meaning in start of game ur priority isn't to last cs, but to beat your enemy in lane. however if they naturally counter you and impossible to out trade the dmg due to both ur lack of skill and champ. then you have NO CHOICE but to last hit cs and passive play. remember if your forced to play safe with ur team member telling you this kind of advice, its not strategic. 2nd yes I know 15cs= 1 kill. when I say pressure, you don't necessarily have to kill them you have to harass them just as much as ur support does. if ur skill shot is on cd, aa them. this applies to both u and ur support. csing is mandatory whether u harass or not. but remember, if u beat their ass in lane and inflict fear, or force them to go back to base, you automatically win dominance in lane and more then likely automatically win cs. how can they win cs if they have to go back constantly? 3rd you can pressure them with out pushing the wave. don't let ur support do all the pressure work and just sit there and pushing the lane. it means ur not putting up a threat, and ur support will be focused hard and forced to take free dmg just for you to cs. additonaly to that ur pushing the wave that forces you to be set up for ganks. theres no reason for that. sometime you do need to bluff the aggression. the mind game does affect them.
I cant stress enough how important pressure is. if you feel that last hitting is more important, if ur goal is to last hit, what do u think ur opponent's goal is? same as urs correct? if so why do u even have support in lane, why not just both adc sit there and last hit, and have ur support go else where? then I hear something derp as, ur support is there to pressure. well then what if both their adc and support harrass ur support to the point that she cant do anything or she has so little health she has to go back. then ur just by ur self getting zoned out because u priotize last hitting. if ur by ur self, u will get zoned out so hard that u cant even touch cs.
