Choosing What To Main

I am very interested in eSports side of league of legends I love watching it and its something i would like to do in the future. My main problem with this is i have no idea what to main. Currently I play a lot of support, but sometimes its just not fun at all. Yes, i'm fairly new to competitive League but i'm willing to take the time to learn. I'm a low level but this is not my first account so i have my experience then it looks. I've always thought Jungle would be a good pick for me I LOVE ganking but half the time i seem to mess up and cost my team the game. Idk if thats just something i need to work on and should work on, or i should pick different role. If you have any tips or what you did to pick please let me know. Thanks to all who help me.

You probably can't go wrong with any role, it really depends on the play style you're looking for. Consider what each role does and how it functions in a highly competitive setting.

Best tip is: get a sense for high level play in a role if you're shooting for Esports level. Watch pro players stream, not just play LCS (as they generally talk about their play and share their frustrations) and get a feel for what might a good fit for you.

Cheering for you. Always excited to see an up and coming Esports star. :)

personally, I transitioned from support first (Naut, Leona, Zillian and Veigar), after that I went to ADC. I always state that a good ADC knows which supports he works well with, and respects those that guide him and lets him do his work. Last season I went mid, picked up a collection of Mids for my birthday, and saved my IP for runes. I plan to work on Jungle all this season, Elise and Nunu are who I plan to work with.

All I have to say is, with whatever you choose, have as much fun as possible! XD

If you enjoy ganking, mid is always an option. I main mid personally and if you can hold lane or beat your opponent you have free roam to gank top and bot. Lots of mids have gank potential and can often help secure kill top or bot once they hit 6. Talon is my usual mid and he is so fun to gank with. His slow and blink to target are awesome and you usually can control your damage enough that you can let the lane get the kill. I am biased because I main mid, but I think its something you should look into. I mean, if you mess up a gank or two, you always have your own lane to farm off of

I run Top/Jungle/Support champions, and I'd like to help you out.

Here are the three easiest champs for each role:

Top: Malphite --Stack Armor or AP, depending on whether you need a tank or an assassin. DrMundo --Stack health. Nasus --Stack your Q.

Jungle: Fiddlesticks --Drain means you finish your jungle with full health. If you can start Red, finish Blue, you come out of Jungle with full Mana too... that's a level 3-4 gank. XinZhao --Play him AD for instant destruction of turrets or other high risk objectives. AP Xin will ensure you incredible survivability. Either way, you can manage an awesome gank as soon as you finish your jungle clear (probably before your opponent). Nocturne --He's just got really good clears, and your E will ensure either a disengage or that the enemy team focuses you down first in a teamfight.

Support: Taric --Max your Q for instant heals. More often than not, you'll save your overzealous ADC. Maokai --Unconventional support pick, but he's great if you need to go aggro. Saplings grant great vision too. Watch your mana, though. Zilean --Pretty simple play-pattern, and can do some serious chunk damage over time with his QWQ combo. Again, watch mana.

Hope this helps in some way!

Well, I would say that you can main anything because the rotating balance system pretty much means that at some point your champ is going to get nerfed or countered by the FOTM champ. Besides, until you hit Diamond, your familiarity with a champ matters more than their OP'ness.

Then again, you could just say F*** it and main Lee Sin and never have to worry about nerfs AND be able to play almost any role you want. Jungle, Top, Mid, Support! He does it all, and will never not do it all!

Personally i think it is best to start with top lane.

This lane is all about counter picks, micromanagement and knowing when and what to buy.

Top lane has also a high range fo champions that can be played there. also farming there is pretty hard as you go mostly melee vs melee.

If you gain right toplane mentality (well most of toplaners are pricks) you might have easier learning of other roles.

In my early stages I played a lot of mid and i was good (considering i was on bronze level) but then I started to play with friends and I ended up as support. And after playing support for 2 years I found it pretty hard to play other lanes where you have to farm and poke simultaneously.

So I would not recommend support, althoug I love that role it will be harder to transfer to other roles.

Thanks for all the responses. After reading them all im leaning towards Mid or Jungle. I'll think about it for a bit.

What are some good Mid lane champs I should pick up to try out mid?

Mid is a strong role because a) current meta places assassins/AP carries there so you will be playing a carry champ, and b) (VERY important in YOLOqueue) you aren't reliant on a support.

I main ADC, so I don't really know what champs you should be picking right now. It sounds like a lot of assassins are getting major nerfs, though.

Don't start maining yet. Familiarize yourself with every champion and every role. This will not only allow you to counterpick and play roles your allies are weak at, it will allow you to counter enemies because you know what their role and champion does. Focus on fixing your weaknesses rather than trying to carry and having no idea why you're feeding.

Ok Jarvan 4 is really strong if you like to jung and sup, Kayle is alright but Riot hit her early game, Nunu is amazing but no one plays him.

Ok heres the deal if you play alot of sup or jung it sounds like you need more experience dueling since both are early passive roles in the game. I recommend playing more mid and top to strengthen your ability to duel other champions or adc and learn to farm and engage. Then you can go back to the sup and jung role and function better, make plays, understand when and who to gank, which lanes you need to help or let fend for themselves.

  1. Don't push lanes if you can't kill your opponent or if the jungler is too far away. This is just asking to get killed.
  2. Mute stupid teammates or just all teammates. They will just make you rage and lose focus and most dont even have anything positive to say.
  3. Help bot and mid lane or rotate (pushing free lanes or taking objectives) even if you aren't ganking these lanes donate a ward or just stay close to rescue or countergank these lanes are most important because of dragon and both damage dealers are in these lanes.
  4. Ping
  5. Stick with the most fed on your team, ensure their survival, make plays with them, help them force objectives and sacrifice yourself if you need to this is like Sup and Jung 101 unless you are the most fed then buy vision and utility items and try not to die.
  6. Play champs you can carry with. I have this problem with Braum because I love his playstyle but he has no offensive capabilty or scaling, he's just cc and peel whereas If I play Morg or Annie I get cc and damage to where I can carry the game if I need to.

Main AP Ashe jungle.

My personal opinion is that the best lane to teach yourself how to get really good at this game from is jungle. It just forces you to learn how to make calculated risks, vision control, and most importantly objective control. But really, just go with the role you find you enjoy the most. Even if you're horrible now, it won't matter a couple hundred games down the road. You'll have improved and be able to play that role at a very high level.

I mainly play top, mid and jungle. I play Rengar , Khazix , LeeSin and Aatrox jungle. I find it easy to gank with their gapclosers + chilling smite (from stalkers blade) and then slowing or snaring them after that. These champs are easyish to gank with IMO and even if u mess up ur gank, you can still take off at least a quarter of their health through their poke. Mid is also an option and a few of the eextremely strong gankers IMO are Lissandra and Kassadin ( contrary to what many people say kassadin is still and extremely powerful champ). You might wanna try some of these guys, especially lissandra considering she is on rotation now :)
