she has such a high range and poke, any tips on how to beat out that range? who are good champs to beat caitlyn, and what supports are best with that champ?

and counter wise, who is the most dangerous support to be played with caitlyn?

and if draven is your one answer, give me another solution

There isn't really a straight forward answer to your question. There isn't really a this adc counters that adc argument that cannot involve supports on both sides. Even mentioning Caitlyn's support, you just kind of call them dangerous. What do you mean by dangerous? Are you laning against a heavy poke lane along the lines of Caitlyn / Nami Janna ? Is the enemy more of the stun and trap attack Caitlyn /Taric Nami Leona ? You will need to look at your support and figure out how you can play your adc with that support versus a caitlyn combo lane.

For example, if you are against Caitlyn Leona , they will probably try to xenith, stun, trap, ult, etc... They will try to all in you with leona leading the charge. A decent lane against the all in comp where their bot lane will be split up (leona will go all in, caitlyn will try to stay at range) could be utilizing a support that can either counter the leona engage completely (Janna ThreshLulu ) or stop caitlyn from being useful (Braum Annie ). The first group can stop xenith engage, or lulu can ult to negate that initial damage and shield. The second two, Braum can jump to you and put up his shield, preventing caitlyn auto's, piltovers, ulting, etc... and annie can just run to caitlyn as leona engages and stun/burst caitlyn forcing her to retreat.

As far as what counters caitlyn, basically gap closing. Caitlyn wins trades by abusing her range and out trading with more auto attacks or getting free harass. This is one reason why caitlyn counters vayne pre level 6. Once vayne hits level six she gets bonus AD with her ult and more importantly invisibility to gap close with. Twitch is also similar in this fashion(invisibility and increased AD with ult). If caitlyn does not secure a lead against vayne early than caitlyn doesn't really counter her that well anymore as vayne will scale harder into the game. This is also why Draven is good against caitlyn, Draven has massive out trade potential with his q, an as/ms boost with his w to close the gap, and his e displaces and slows. So if you can catch the caitlyn out of position with an e than you can really punish her.

However, your support is generally the one that will be making engages. So a great support against caitlyn is someone like Leona Thresh Alistar Blitzcrank . Although any support that can make caitlyn out of position through cc is also strong if they can close the gap. This also depends what support is chosen. So if your support goes Leona and plans to hard engage, Vayne does not fit very well. Vayne has a pretty poor early game so if leona jumps in at level 1 or 2, you can't really help. And caitlyn should be punishing you at level 1. However, if you go with a good fighter such as Graves Lucian Draven or anyone with some burst, than you can really punish caitlyn when your support catches her and cc's her out of position.

You can also plan to play safely with picks such as Tristana Jinx (your range will get decent pretty quickly and both of these scale really well).

Honestly, doing a breakdown of every champ doesn't really matter, as cait can play safely against almost anyone with her range and the support choices matter a lot. You want to be looking at what duo you are up against, what they are trying to accomplish, and how you can beat them. If you choose your adc first then you just need to worry about how to counter whoever they pick with your support. If they show caitlyn but not their support, then you choose an adc based on what you want to do (hopefully asking before if your support can back you up). Ie, I'm going to pick graves, can you pick a good engaging support? Maybe you will get something like Morgana Thresh Leona. You can also go the scaling route and pick tristana, vayne, twitch, and either plan to go in at level 6, or plan to just farm and outscale and ask for a disengage support.

Hopefully this information helps, but when trying to counter an adc/support duo bot lane, you really have to get a decent working lane on your side that has a plan and try to go with that. Also, the plan can change as the game goes on. If you get into lane and realize their support is just awful, take advantage of it. If some of this is too rambly or doesn't make sense just let me know and i'll try to clarify!! Good luck! :}

Are we literally talking about beating Caitlyn BOT? As in... the bot?

If so, the correct answer here is practice.

TheKingDodo1/22/2015, 5:36:20 PM1 votes

anyone but Urgot and Vayne. otherwise it's a skill matchup. Avoid head shots, dodge Qs, harass them while they're csing, normal adc stuff.

i love bot, especially adc because during laning phase, who your using as adc matters very little. An lcs sup with a bronze adc will beat an lcs adc and a bronze sup 8/10 imo during lane. after that though, if you and the enemy bot are 0-0 with comperable cs, then its whoever scales better.

not really helping to anwser your question, but i just want to highlight how important the sup is in lane. THEY CONTROL THE LANE... not the adc.

Graves or Vayne (I guess I should add here with specific supports, not just adc vs adc but that is another and much longer discussion). You have to play aggressive. Play someone likes graves and get in her face, she only has one actual damage ability, her net sort of does damage but more an escape and her trap takes time to "prime" when dropped. Graves is innately "tanky" so to speak to in a 1 v 1 or 2 v 2 in both he will have that advantage plus the closer he is the more damage his buckshot does for example.

Also his ult with do initial damage where her ult has to prime and she does nothing until it shoots so that is another advantage. Just poke at her, force her to miss cs, if she pushes up tell your support to be ready to jump on her. She can't 1 vc 1 most adcs early on unless she is like 2 levels ahead (even then just pure levels doesn't give her an advantage) or is items ahead.

You can't just expect to sit back and have a farm war because she can farm and poke you down at the same time and be safe, so you have to force her to fight in lane.

I find myself fighting her alot as Ez as a counterpick, essentially spam q, dodge skillshots, wait for jungler, don't land on traps, win lane. Other than that though, I don't see Cait alot even though i play her frequently, she loses alot of dps lategame when she can't deliver skillshots and is a liability due to her movement speed if you just wait out the laning phase and have a good assassin she's dead pretty quick plus cait players never buy Bork which really is the best item on her.

You shouldn't pick a champion with the intent to win the lane against a Caitlyn. You should pick a champion with the intent of beating her after the lanining phase ends (mid or late game). You can also pick Lucian if you wanna fight her head on. Just don't pressure yourself to win the lane. It doesn't matter that much if you manage to CS well and not die.

My two cents, if you have trouble with constantly taking harass, focus on farming and getting your Bloodthirster to negate some of the poke damage. And a great support with heals to help you better sustain yourself in lane longer than her is always helpful. My best pick for that support is SonaSona

She has incredible poke/Heals/Run Speed Steroid/ and her Stun Ulti. Just a thought.

Sivir Clear the wave quickly with your W, forcing her to farm under turret. Shield her Q poke with your E. Pop her traps with your E for free mana. Q her back for harass or to shove the wave even harder. Your ult lets you get in her face to all in, which you win if you shield her Q and she doesn't have time for 2 headshot procs.

Some things to know about Caitlyn Caitlyn: She's a lane bully. She's great in the early game. She is arguably the easiest ADC to learn. But she has some drawbacks.

  • She's mana hungry. If she spams too many peacemakers she will run out of mana.
  • She falls off late game. So the longer you make the game the better chance you have of outclassing her.
  • She can get her ultimate blocked. So she's weak in situations with multiple enemies.
  • Her peacemaker gets weaker per target it hits. So if she's using it to poke you through minions she really isn't dealing as much damage as she could be doing. *Her traps are pretty visible. If you step on it and it's not hidden in a bush... you really can't blame anyone but yourself.
  • Her passive is stronger in a bush. But if she's firing from inside the bush she gives you full vision of whats in that bush. The enemy support is no longer hidden. Removes the "surprise" factor when she does this. Blitz hooks are now more avoidable.
  • Caitlyn SUCKS when she gets in close with an enemy. Her E is supposed to be used defensively. Slows the enemy and creates distance. If she uses it to help chase a kill MAKE HER PAY. Its got a pretty big cool down window so this is your best chance to engage upon her. When this is down.

I always thought that Blitzcrank Blitz was her best support. If Blitz can stand on a trap of Cait's and then grab them onto the trap for a double stun. Then land an auto attack and then knock up his target with his punch. Then ult so that they are silenced and cannot use an ability to escape right away. Lulu Lulu also makes Caitlyn a terror to lane against as Lulu's Pixie shield gives empowered auto attacks. Janna Janna is a similiar scenario but Lulu helps Caitlyn poke people down so be more afraid of that combo. Nami Nami was mentioned earlier and its because Nami can do everything. There really is nothing that fish cannot do...

But Sivir Sivir is a good choice if you plan on passively outsustaining Caitlyn. Her spell shields nullify Cait's peacemaker and makes her traps turn into free mana. Sivir has the easiest time against Caitlyn if the Sivir knows how to properly use spell shield. Also helps if she has a heal support. Lucian Lucian has the ability to dodge Caitlyn's peacemaker and land his full combo and just out trade Caitlyn forcing her to back. His ult also allows him long ranged kill potential and unlike Cait can be used to farm too. He has the best shot of shutting her down. Ezreal Ezreal takes some skill and some planning to pull off correctly. His poke isn't as hard as Caitlyn's but he can poke more often. He is very slippery in lane but still susceptible to caitlyn ults. He can kill Caitlyn and can outfarm her too, but outclassing her late game... not so much. He's an objective oriented ADC.

As far as supports go for countering her I really like Morgana Morgana. She can root Caitlyn for you and shield you so that the enemy support cannot CC you in return. So you can get a free opening to trade. She takes the lowest amount of skill to pull off and can help you carry into late game. Braum Braum is another decent choice. He can negate her peace maker with her shield and the threat of his passive proccing will make her back off you. He is melee so he takes skill to use. Probably the hardest support I'll be listing here. Lulu Lulu I think counters her. Can shield you, speed you up so you get in range to attack her, can polymorph cait or the enemy support for kicks and can utilize her peculiar pix placements to sneak in some poke shots. Her ults can also save you from Cait's ults as Lulu ults give you a decent amount of hp. Paired with a shield and you can actually bait out Cait's ults and make Caitlyn very unhappy.

AnArousedCactus1/24/2015, 12:27:58 AM1 votes

Kalista and Leona combo should get a mention here too, granted your soul bound target can lock Caitlyn down long enough for you to blow her up.

Thanotos Omega1/22/2015, 3:26:21 PM1 votes

If you can learn her tell for when Peacemaker is coming that makes it allot easier, since that's her most dangerous trick 2-3 of those and she can wreck you, other then that just try to force her into heavy trades, she's built for range not damage,

Sirin Gioro1/25/2015, 4:44:35 PM1 votes

Caitlyn is a poke ADC, so you need a burst ADC. Caitlyn can't 1v1 THAT well, especially against burst ADCs like Graves (with BF especially), Corki (triforce/sheen), and et cetera. You can play weak early ADCs like Vayne or Twitch against a bad Caitlyn who does not abuse her strong early game and high range.

Visaru1/22/2015, 3:42:20 PM1 votes

Lucian matches up best iirc

P1LLOWHUMP3R1/22/2015, 3:58:47 PM1 votes

Lucian or corki are my hardest match ups.

Best support for Cait is nami, tidecaller blessing with her long aa poke = screwed plus anyone with a knock up/stun and Cait can place a trap under that person and it's a kill. Calibre net gives her a good escape.
