When To: Statikk Shiv or Phantom Dancer.

I get this a lot, Which one over Which? Well, heres the thing..

Statikk Shiv is naturally what EVERYONE gets.. and I understand why, its a relatively nice object with its +100 damage at 100 charges.. but it is Inferior in stats to its brother, Phantom Dancer.

I'll get this straight out of the way, 10% is a lot, especially in the case of Attack speed, And that also applies to the Crit chance. now, 1% is not that much, especially in the way for MS, as that's like 3-5 at max.

So, heres what I'm gonna put.

When to for Statikk Shivitem 3087 : Need a Poke Need a small attack speed Increase Need 20% crit chance for anything. (or your Yasuo)

When to for Phantom Danceritem 3046 : Need to get away or to things without redirection Need a bigger attack speed bonus Filling out Crit chance

Phantom Dancer is better for dueling.

Statikk Shiv is better for wave clear.

item 3087 gives you a nice mid game powerspike. At this point, 100 damage that can Crit are huge. However, as the game progresses, item 3046 scales way better, the more items you get. Also item 3087 gives you some waveclear, which isn't that impactful, compared to actual waveclearing champs. If your team lacks waveclear, item 3087 will NOT compensate for that by it's own.

Ignoring specific champions, item 3046 is the straight up better item. It just happens that some champions make far better use of item 3087's passive. Yasuo for example get's to a point where he has close to 100% crit chance, so the item 3087's passive will be guaranteed to crit. Or takeLucian , who has his doubleshot passive, which recharges item 3087 2x as fast, and his dash, which counts towards moved distance for item 3087 charge.

If your champion doesn't have a way of enhancing item 3087 passive, there is no reason for getting it, except if you are desperately in need of that mid game power spike, and accept that you will fall heavily behind compared to item 3046.

stattik shiv > PD

PD only if u dont need waveclear and u are really fed out of laning phase i.e. twitch, varus

Alright so heres a few reasons why you might take one over the other: Static shiv: -its 300 gold cheaper than PD

  • the passive gives you extra wave clear which is very important if ur looking to push minion waves faster / split push PD:
  • you have enough gold for it
  • you are teamfighting mostly (this is where that extra 10% atk speed and crit chance benefits u more)

OR You could completely disregard the SS vs. PD argument and buy whichever item you want

Depends on the character. That said, I'm not a fan of static shiv. That said, I'm also a really, really bad ADC.

PD is better on AA reliant ADC's. Shiv is better is almost every other situation.

When playing ADC, I only get Shiv when we're losing. The extra wave clear is nice.

On MF I build PD. On Cait i build PD. On Twitch I build Shiv. On Lucian I build shiv. On Sivir I build Shiv. On Ashe it depends (but shiv nowadays). On Jinx it depends. On Kog it depends.

I usually build shiv on champs i'd build bortk. Not back to back mind you, that gives you shit for damage, but maybe something like Bortk, greaves, LW, Shiv. Or IE, w/e. I do that because having bortk attack speed on top of the PD always seems like a waste of money when you could get more damage and increase your dps more.

In "general" it "depends."
