How to tame the jungle with the spooky horse

Hey guys so I've finally homed in on who my main jungler is going to be and it's Hecarim. So much fun and his movement throughout the whole map is just very satisfying. I've been playing him for a bit now and I think I've gotten him down. Now all I ask is for any advanced tips, if any, that you guys could give. Just a few tips on gameplay(about Hecarim and jungling in general) and suggestions on his build would be greatly appreciated.

My build on him is as follows

these first three items are the essentials and I always build first no matter if I'm behind or not and they are in this order item 3709 Stalker's Blade w/ Cinderhulk item 3274 Boots of Mobility w/ Alacrity item 3078 Triforce

my damage items are these and usually build straight damage if I'm ahead with the exception of Spirit Visage item 3074 Ravenous Hydra item 3071 The Black Cleaver item 3142 Youmuu's Ghostblade -Depending on the enemy team comp I either build Ravenous for a squishy team comp and black cleaver for a tanky team comp. or if I'm behind I go straight for the black cleaver.

  • I don't get Youmuu's very often as it is a final item for me

these are my only two defense items and usually only get them when I fall behind or when I'm not spectacularly stomping through the lanes item 3143 Randuin's Omen item 3065 Spirit Visage

and finally these are my runes and masteries 2x quint of movement speed 1x quint of attack damage- will be later replaced by another quint of movement speed when i get enough ip 9x mark of attack damage 9x mark of armor 9x mark of scaling magic resist

masteries are 22/5/3

so again any advice on his build, gameplay on Hec and just jungling in general will be greatly appreciated

ok i have a one very important thing to say:

DONT BUILD FULL AD!!!

hecarim need a tri force/black clever and maybe a ghostblade is your fed but other than that should be full tank. Hecarim thrives in extended team fights because of his W and Q cooldown the damage he does just with those items is well over enough for a jungler. You shouldn't be trying to one shot people because they are just to one shot you when you engage cause they can see you coming a mile away.

another thing to add is that mobility boots actually hurt hecarim in the long run because it gives less move speed when the passive is down so something like swifties or defensive boots work way way better

build that you should highly consider:

stalker's into cinderhulk Black Clever Righteous Glory Randuin's Omen Spirit Visage and either mercury treds or ninja tabi

also running smite ignite is very good to help snowball while ganking much like a shaco would. Ghost is OK and some people optimize with TP to abuse the dreaded homeguard hecarim gank like a top laner would usually do.
