Last season was my first season in ranked (went from Bronze 3 to Silver 4) and I love Malzahar (even played him top some games). I normally go RoA -> Void -> Zhonyas/Dcap -> whichever one I didn't get previous, leaving me with little to no CDR for spamming my voidling and waveclear which leads me to ask this:
Would a Morellonomicon be better than the RoA?

Standard AP runes?

WarlockLaw1 votesI don't play him much, but imo he doesn't need the mana regeneration that morellonomicon provides. I also feel that since he doesn't have any mobility and cant do anything during his ult you are better off with the health that RoA provides

Of course build depending on whether or not you need early MPen. No one builds MR go straight for DCap after Morello, otherwise go Liandries.
Good HP/Mana boost from RoA so you dont worry about running out of Mana. Max CD + Mana Regen from Morello = Nonstop Spam + Ult every 48 seconds. Liandries synergizes well with your kit with its % Health Damage Its MPen + Void Staff MPen allows you to still shred tanks.
I dropped Zhonya's a long time ago, while its passive and bonus armor are great the fact that you have no escapes makes it pretty irrelevant in most situations, you Zhonya in a team fight and immediately when its over your still dead.
I go 21/0/9 on my Masteries, improved recalled, increased movement speed, 10% CD on Flash and Ignite, and Biscuits are great as they give some Mana back too.
As for Runes I got Hybrid Marks because your voidlings benefit from ArPen, you only lose 2.3 MPen as opposed to straight MPen Marks but gain 8.1 ArPen. Afterwords I split my seals 5 Mana Regen/4 Armor, then I finish with 9 AP Glyphs and 3 AP Quints

Sometimes i will build a Liandrys first instead of RoA, replace the RoA with a Morello or something. The Void and Deathcap order is dependent on whether they build MR or not, if they did Void if they didnt RabCap. The Rylai's is what i build normally because i like the slow and gives a lot of AP. I will build a if they have a lot of lifesteal/spellvamp champs, i use to build DFG for fun but they are removing it so no longer an option. Zhonya's is good if they have a lot of AD but i dont like building it on Malzahar, if you need to use Zhonya's you are probably going to die anyways unless you use it to avoid burst damage.
