Tips for playing Mid or even Solo-laning in general?

When it comes to playing roles, I've been always fairly good with every role except for mid. I don't know what it is about mid, but I seem to make poor decisions. I love playing a bunch of champs that mostly go mid (Cass, Kennen, Syndra, and Vel'koz), but I'm always a little hesitant to play mid just because I feel like I don't ever do well in that lane. I know that my biggest problem in mid lane is my poor csing skill so there's that.. So anyway, here are some of the questions I have about mid/solo-laning.

  • When to roam/when to follow enemy laner? I never know when to roam or when to follow the enemy laner when they're roaming. I'll ping if the enemy is gone, but besides that, I find myself usually just pushing the lane, hoping that the enemy doesn't get kills, and trying to get the turret so that the enemy loses CS/gold/time. When it comes to roaming, I almost never roam lol. I'll usually only roam if my jungler is in need, but other than that, I stay in my lane and cs/push.

  • Taking jungle camps Is it wrong to take a camp from your jungler? If I can, when is the best time to? When they're off ganking or back at base? I know that when I'm taking a camp from the enemy jungle, I need to ward and not get caught out, but I never know if I should take a camp from my team's own jungle. I do play a lot of jungle and I sometimes find myself getting annoyed when I see my teammates taking the farm and they know that I'm behind. I would assume that I should only take the camps if my jungler is ahead then right?

  • Dragon calls I've noticed in my elo that jungler's sometimes ignore drag for 15-20mins. Should I be concerned with making calls to get drag?

Well, those are the biggest questions I have right now. So pls halp lol

Roaming: usually when your lane is pushed and bot lane is pushed in. Can also roam if you cannot lane well against your opponent due to champ matchup.

Taking camps: depends on the situation. If your jg is on the other side of the map or dead it's fine. Also if you desperately need gold for an item or wards.

Dragon calls: Also depends on the situation. If your team is stronger and can take it safely then it is okay. Make sure there are wards around the pit first. Generally it is safe when your team has just killed an enemy or all go your creep waves are pushed to the enemy turret.

I main ADC but I see a lot of mistakes Mid laners make and these tips may help.

  • When the game starts DON'T AFK AT YOUR TURRET It's so cringy when Mid laners will just sit there and do nothing. The best thing is to hide or move around in a brush to get vision over any possible invasions, but don't stand completely still. If an enemy Blitzcrank warded the brush above the Dragon pit, he can grab you through the wall and into the Dragon pit and most likely kill you. This isn't really an issue in higher elo, but even then I see it happen with Platinum and Diamond players, but SIGNIFICANTLY less often.

  • Remember to roam. Even if you're playing Anivia who's extremely slow and squishy, I still roam every game. If you're lane is pushed in and you can't over extend, I try to get wards up in the river, take Scuttle, or gank Top/Bot. Don't roam if there are a lot of minions pushing into your turret, It's useless and It's pretty obvious you're MIA. Roam only when YOUR minions are pushing in the other laner's turret, especially if they backed recently.

  • Ward the Raptor Pit. There's so many Junglers; Vi, Sejuani, Gragas, and ESPECIALLY Zac that will be able to easily gank you over the Raptor Pit wall.

  • Take Jungler's camps when they're not around, and your lane is being pushed by the minions. Over extending is bad and It's the reason I see most Mid laners die to ganks. Try to stay at a gold advantage and grabbing Raptors or Wolves really quick can help a ton.
