Zed in teamfights

Hello everyone,

first of all excuse me for my probably bad English i´m no American (just here because there are quite more people who answer your threads). Also this is not my main account so dont wonder if you cant find any stats at Lolking.

I got a few questions concerning Zed. I recently bought this champ and tried him in a few games. Surprisingly i always had decent laning phases, i would even say it was easy although i´m not experienced with Zed at all. In the first games i always wanted to use my advantage of being fed in team fights. Unfortunately i always failed in a pathetic way and every game my problem was the same: When i ulted i instantly got CCd so i was neither able to kill someone nor to survive. Due to that experiences i tried another strategy in the next games. After the laning phase i entirely avoided team fighting and kept split pushing. To my own surprise this worked extremely well because mostly there werent more than 2 enemies to catch me so i was able to kill both/escape due to being fed.

Considering that i probably just was lucky in the game in which i was split pushing i´m not sure if i should always do that with Zed.

Therefore i have to questions concerning Zed:

-When do you split push/join team fights? -How to behave in team fights?

I hope that some experienced zed players can help me.

Hello garenislow,

Glad to hear you are picking up The Master of Shadows!

I'll first address the concept of splitpushing vs teamfighting

Generally speaking, you want to split push when you know you won't win a 5v5 teamfight.

Splitpushing causes the enemy team to rotate to stop you. Your team can use this knowledge to create picks or force objectives while the splitpusher distracts the enemy team.

One major factor to consider is how fed you are. If you have a majority of your teams kills, then you will be significantly stronger than anyone who tries to stop you, but your team will be significantly weaker in a fight that you aren't included in.

You should group for a teamfight when you feel confident in your ability to win a 5v5 engagement.

Okay let's talk about Zed specifically

As a Zed player, it is very risky to initiate fights. If you do, your ult will be the first thing everyone sees, so it will be the first thing they react to.

It's much safer to wait for your tank/initiator to start a fight, and then jump in afterwards.

After you ult, your main goal should be to hit your target with Razor Shuriken (Q), Shadow Slash (E), and most importantly Contempt for the Weak (Passive). Once you feel like your ult has enough damage to kill your target on the pop, press R again to swap out and escape all the enemy players who were trying to peel you off their teammate.

One of Zed's greatest traits is his 1v1 potential. If you can pick someone off and then group with your team, it will be much easier to win a teamfight 5v4 without your ult than if you had fought 5v5 with it.

I hope this helps. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Have a great day! :)
