How do you beat Swain?

When playing against Swain, you cannot avoid the E, but the W is avoidable and do not stand close during his ultimate, use ranged spells, his Q is not avoidable but it can be walked away from. No matter what, though, avoid the W.

Swain builds tanky. Imagine you are laning versus a Nunu. How would you beat him?

If you don't kill him before his first back you probably will not 1v1 kill him unless he is very low. Roam a lot. Make LC$ plays. And get fed yourself.

MISCONCEPTION: You don't have to get kill-fed in every lane match in League.

Fiddle won't care if he gets Damaged over time. He will just heal all of it back. You got your silence for his ultimate. A fear if you somehow miss that silence. Drain to sustian through his initial combo. An a rival of other crows. Fiddle is typically played jungle (blue buff) though because he has ridiculously high mana costs. Crow vs Crow who will win!?

Teleport out of everything he does. Harass to CC with knife throwing. Buy and burst him.

Swain is pretty oppressive. His trades in lane hit extremely hard even if he misses his snare, but he has very little damage outside of his cooldowns so try to punish him in between since they're relatively long.

Post 6 avoid sustained fights unless you're tanky enough to exhaust his entire mana pool before dying. Just remember he gets mana and health back for fighting in minion waves, so avoid that if you can. He's basically like a high damage vlad with less sustain.

Swain is pretty mana gated early. If you can keep his mana low, he isn't a big threat.

Do well against him mid lane. Top lane: mabye Bring ignite. Play someone with good waveclear, he has bad waveclear and so will lose minions to tower inevitably.

Just push him onto his turret and watch him struggle to get 10 cs in the first 10 minutes. Then proceed to rape him an underfarmed carry in teamfights.

Swain's specific Weaknesses - Swain's strengths not only lies in his oppressive harass heavy early game, but the reliance of his ult to keep the pressure going. Most of his target weaknesses can be abused during the early laning phase.

Absolutely Horrid Waveclear: Unless Swain maxes W first, which is seriously unlikely considering his E's potential damage, he'll have no way to push the wave without using considerable amounts of mana from his ult. He will need RoA to get a decent mana pool to work with. Before that happens, shove the lane under his tower; it opens up another weakness.

Last Hitting Under Tower Sucks: Swain's DoT nature can make it hard to last hit under tower. Basically, unless the player is skilled in Last Hitting and is WELL aware of the damage tic timings of his skills, he can potentially miss a lot of cs. Make his life even more hell by harassing him while he's trying to last hit.

Gank Early: I cannot stress this enough, Swain is very vulnerable in those first 5 levels. If he is pushed up on you, do not hesitate to call for a gank. Anything you can do to delay his power spike at lvl6 will ensure that you at least go even in lane with him; assuming you don't win the lane outright. It stands to note that Swain's ultimate will NOT hit champions in stealth. Choosing junglers that can quickly jump in and out of a fight with stealth (Shaco, Kha'Zix comes to mind) can aid in 2v1s and reduce the healing he'll recieve.

Range: While Swain's damage is ridiculous, his range isn't. Kite around his range and poke him from afar.

Early Dueling: Swain will more than likely take Q or E at level 1. Neither one of these skills are notably strong at this point. If you can grab an AD mid laner and force trades in the first 3 levels, it can more than likely go in your favor. Riven is someone that comes to mind that can lay the pressure on early on him.

Drag Out The Fight: While Swain's damage increases over the course of a team fight, so does the mana cost on his ultimate (It doubles per second). Kite his range if possible and force him to exhaust his mana. If he cancels the ult early, you have 8 seconds to kill him before he has it back up. Take extreme advantage of this window.

Out Damage Him: There are a number of champions that can not only out damage Swain, but more importantly, can out damage the heal on his ultimate. Straight up burst damage can work early, but you gotta really use the burst to shove him out of lane, or else he may be able to make a comeback later. Specific champions that come to mind are:

- Her Q/E spam is 200x worst than Swain's to deal with. Her Q's bonus movement speed allows her to kite around Swain's range. Also, it's rather easy to land her ult on him. The sustained damage from her Q DoT and E's spam will out damage Swain's heal easily. Grab Morellos and poke him hard and all-in him when he's low enough.

- Powerful waveclear and his E does hefty amount of burst. His full combo not only carries enough burst, but his ult's DoT makes sure to make the damage stick. Use the range on his E to poke him early, if he goes in on you, W him, and just unload everything.

- Superior range, burst, and a passive that makes pretty much every mid laner but Galio cry at night. A Rylai's/Liandry's build on him will make even the tiniest amounts of damage stick. Swain can only play defensive against a Brand.

These are just a few of the matchups that come to mind. Hopefully this list helps.

LeBlanc is your best bet at killing him. I know from playing Swain myself that anything that is highly mobile and has longer range than myself is a hard lane. You need high burst damage to nullify his sustain and long range poke to whittle him down. Don't watch his health, so much as his mana pool. If he had less than 1/3 of his mana left that is a good time to engage on him. Other notable choices to countering Swain are Zed, Azir, Viktor, Ekko, Lux, Brand and Syndra. Anything else is a skill matchup. And unless you want to have a bad time never pick Vladimir into Swain.

Its also not impossible to kill him, he is super weak before 6 and still weak before zhonyas.
