Why inexperienced/low ELO players should never main Fizz first

Before I begin let me just say, I still love Fizz.

Fizz is, in my opinion, the very worst champion to main early on in your league experiences. Fizz carried me from B5 to S3 last season, mostly because he was broken but also because I had many games with him and knew him inside and out. After they nerfed him and the meta changed I essentially had to re-learn the ENTIRE game because I had been playing so much Fizz. Here's why:

  1. Positioning with Fizz at lower ELO is almost unnecessary. Over extended in lane? Don't worry just Q through an enemy minion. Got caught out? Don't worry just E away.
  2. His passive lets you ignore creep block Never even realized creep block was a thing until I stopped playing Fizz, you get in the habit of sitting inside your own wave to block skillshots and run directly through them to escape. Once I started playing other champions, I had to try and get out of this habit and it was not easy.
  3. His W makes last hitting significantly easier early game I didn't realize until I stopped playing him how much I relied on the DOT to finish off minions. This one is probably the most crippling once you switch to someone else since CS is so important.
  4. His item 3100 item 3020 item 3157 item 3089 item 3285 item 3026 build works so well at low ELO that you rarely if ever have to reaction build. In all my wins as Fizz I used that build with zero augmentation (Like seriously, never changed a single item look it up) and it worked enough to bring me up 8 tiers (Swap Ludens for DFG last season). Obviously building the same thing every game is an awful habit to get into but on Fizz it really never mattered.

These are fundamentals of the game and if you play Fizz exclusively you essentially get by without them to a point. Fizz is a great champion, just not for people who want to actually learn the game. He just has very little in terms of transferable mechanics when you look at the big picture. I know Riot has his difficulty marked pretty high but I think it should be as high as possible to discourage newer players from picking him up.

I think they should make Fizz's E CD much higher so you have to think about using it

Yea but Vlad has his Q and his W. Without Fizz's E hes left with a gap closer and a DOT, that's it. I do agree with you though, his E dealing that much damage and giving that much mobility on such a low CD at higher ranks is pretty ridiculous. I just think he would need a full rework rather than just adding time to E.
