So back when Hon first came out and was Pay to play i was a top level player, played in a few online tournaments few lans around canada and northern USA Now I am switching over to LoL as I have not been gaming for some time but with my new job I have the time to game again,

In HoN i was a solo off lane player. not sure if that exists in this game. just looking for tips on which hero's are best to use when starting out.
my APM game knowledge was always very good in other games. I see LoL has way more hero classes like Mage, Assassin, support etc..

so what i'm wonder is should i start as a support player until i get used to how the game is played. or would it really hurt my team if i played a any role and had no idea what other hero's do and that..

any advice would be great appreciated thanks in advance

When you are first starting out, you will generally see 2 random champions top, 2 random champions bot, and 1 random champion mid. After a while you'll start to see the more standard setup of 1 marksman (ranged autoattacker) and support (tank or mage with cc), 1 burst mage or assassin, 1 wild card top (usually tanky) and 1 wild card jungler.

Don't stress too much about going to the correct lane or finding the correct champion to play. Use your trip to 30 to learn as much as you can about a variety of champions so that you'll have a broader understanding of the game as a whole.

I say what you should do first is try to familiarize yourself with what all the champions can do. Picking a role can work, especially support since it is the least favorite role so you have a high chance of getting it, but if you want to play in ranked you will have to be able to do a little of everything or at least have a "sigh, I have to play (insert role), I guess I'll play (insert champion)". I feel ADC is the easiest role in the game, since all you really have to do is AA minions until you hit your power spike and can team fight. Also as an ADC player, I will say I REALLY dislike supports who don't know what they are doing and/or don't know what to do, as the ADC usually relies on the support to hold their hand to get them out of laning phase. If your fear is lack of knowledge, you will face it no matter what role you play, so I suggest picking a role you like and throwing yourself at it. Besides, mistakes are the best way to teach you what you can/can't do.

Oh and you can get Tristana Garen Alistar for free I think, so don't buy them and look up how to get them (you'll have to subscribe to RIOT on facebook, twitter, and youtube respectively I think).
