Malzahar: when to max Q first and when to max E first?

would you max Q first when laning against assassins so they can't burst you? is there any specific advantage to maxing one over the other? E has 20 more base damage at max rank and both have the same scaling. E is point and click and DoT, while Q is a longer range, AoE, and has a delay. i used to max E first, but maxing Q first was very effective against a Zed i laned against recently. any thoughts on which to max first? (please specify AP or AD Malzahar)

no no no max q against mages so they can't use abilities you alternate between leveling q and e against assassins so your q is useful, but assassins have high mobility so if they dodge it you can e them so then you can atleast get some damage on them

It depends on your ability to land Q. I personaly think maxing Q first is better for teamfights but if u can't land it properly, ur better off maxing your E first.

just max your e always. by the time youre teamfighting you will have them both leveled and it wont matter. if you get behind on malz while maxing q it makes it a lot tougher to afk farm back into lane. you should be aiming to push lane with e while harrasing with the eq at the same time(e will be done in cd before the wave is dead). lets be honest malz has high burst until, but a few items and level 11 he doesnt have the base stats to one shot eveyone so the q silence wont matter bc the mage will still be able to land their burst after yours. youre better off maxing e for the safe lane push and mana.
