Zed in the laning phase

Hello!

I don't post here often, but I've been struggling against Zed in lane for the past few months. That is, I tend to do well against him - but it never really matters. I poke him enough, I dodge his shuriken most of the time, and I try to punish him with ranged attacks. But even with seemingly poor Zed players, they just seem to pot up and subsist on being resourceless. He seems to always just basically have a free pass through his laning phase. He's the only champion I really have this issue with in the mid lane. I don't really have an issue with his mid/late game, but I feel like he doesn't have to work very hard to get there.

Does anyone have any legitimate advice on how to deal with him, or what to pick into him (specifically in mid lane)? I've looked at some of the "matchup" sites, but it's hard to tell exactly what's legitimate, and I think it might be helpful to have multiple inputs. Is his laning phase just supposed to give him a firm standing into the rest of the game?

The last piece of advice I got was to try and roam a lot, but he pushes the lane like crazy and his ability to take towers early is a little threatening. So I'm not so sure that's legitimate. I'm gold V, and I mostly play mages, but I'm open to anything.

Thanks!
