It's my Birthday! (Teach me how to Shyvana)

Hi there! Shyvana is a champ that I really like, but I'm no good with her. I've tried to mimic different jungle vids that I have come across on youtube, but I can only get through the krugs and red buff before the little fire birds tell me to get rekt. I've tried bypassing them and heading over to the wolves, but it doesn't work out right either. I think that it's because I don't have a correct rune page for her currently. I have tried her on top lane, which worked pretty well. Late game I cause a lot of destruction and can split push really well, but as soon as I get stunned it's all over even when in dragon form. Shyv is a very fast champion, but I still get caught.

The birds are honestly stupid heavy hitters.... They are over powered to keep mids from farming them I think, I like their buff, but with the new L9 trinks, kinda pointless.

I mostly agree with the advice already being given here, especially EvilMerodach's build/clear path (although i prefer hybrid pen reds, bc most of her damage is from her W). A couple LS quints will really help, and pretty much every jungler needs CDR blues now just to survive the early jungle (as opposed to the S4 MR-per-level blues, RIP)

I would say this: while jungling Shyvana, your number 1 priority should be FARMING, not ganking. You probably already know this, but pre-6 (even post-6) Shyvana is one of the weakest gankers in the game, and wasting the time to set up a couple of ganks will set you very far behind. Only gank if:

  1. Your ally's lane is extremely pushed back and they have cc to back you up (even then, probably better to let them farm under turret while you farm the jungle)
  2. You are in position for a countergank

That's it; Shyvana's strength is her late game tankiness, and a farmed shyvana is a huge pain for the enemy team to deal with. Get some wards, watch for the enemy jungler, and steal their camps when you can. Also, don't rush Bork after jungle item unless you are very far ahead; an early giant's belt is MUCH more useful.

One more tip: you might try running exhaust + smite, since once SHyv reaches level 6 you have a short CD flash, plus W lets her run really fast.

I never do the birds on a first clear... in fact I often won't clear the birds at all until I'm 6. They hit too hard and the time it takes to kill them you can be ganking or hitting another camp.

My 1st clear on Shyv is Krugs, Red, Wolves, Blue, Frog, back.

Search me on LOLKING I did a Shyv match last night. Shyv Masteries and JgVi Runes - it was by far my best clears I've had with her since the new jungle. I was running move speed and AS before, but taking out MR / MS and adding AD and CDR I found my first clears were much better.

I use 1 AS quint, 2 ls, as marks, armor seals, cd glyphs (all flat, can mix a few scaling armor/cd if you like it better)

Start W, start Krogs. Smite as soon as it spawns, hit big once (to stun) switch to little till it will die from W burn, switch back to big (make sure leash leaves exp range before little dies or you won't hit 2 from camp) Pop a potion/level Q on way to Brambleback. Hit Brambleback till he gets stunned (remember auto/Q/auto counts as 3 hits almost instantly,) switch to closer cinderling, attack till W burn will kill it, switch back to Brambleback, stun again, switch to 2nd cinderling, kill it, kill Brambleback. Pop 2nd potion. Here you have a couple choices- gank mid, kill bird, kill grump, kill blue. Easiest path- kill birds. Auto each little bird once, or twice if you're on 0/21/9 masteries (to trigger red burn on them) then switch to big one. W/red burn should kill little while you auto big one to death. You can smite when it comes back off cooldown if you want, thought I don't think it's needed (unless you got a bad leash.) From here, either recall/buy your smite upgrade or kill wolves. Try to micromanage your autos for the rest of your jungle time, don't waste autos on stuff that will die from W burn, activate Q right after your auto lands for quick triple autos, try to move a little between autos for the melee camps (Krog, Brambleback, Blue, Wolves) to delay their attacks slightly if your attack+move is good.

For builds, Defensive- remember Shy scales better with HP than armor/mr (she gets armor/mr passively from her R) so amount of damage you can take per hitpoint naturally goes up more than most champions as you level. But don't stack so much hp that you force enemy adc to make your life hell with a bork. Offensive- she scales better with AS than AD (every single one of her skills scales with on-hit in some way or another)

For split pushing, don't be afraid to blow your ulti if you get caught out. It gives you some extra armor/mr as soon as you transform, and it's on a fairly low cd anyway. >40 autos away from having it again. If you really need to GTFO, walls are your friends, (unless it's a Vayne/Poppy/big Gnar chasing you.) Shy ulti can go over nearly any wall in the game, and even if they flash to follow, you'll do better in jungle area than most champions will anyway (can force them through your W burn path easier than in lane/brush juke with the small speed boost)

Late game she tends to fall off in power, so try to force a win earlier, unless you have a super late-game carry on your team that will be able to carry you through to the end. (EG: Nasus, Jax, Kayle, Lucian, Tristana) In those cases, become their personal bodyguard for the rest of the game past 35mins or so, and pray they know how to carry..

GL;HF, and Happy Birthday ;D

  1. Make sure you have jungle masteries
  2. I like LS quints on her, grab armor yellows, and mixed pen or ad reds.
  3. It helps to get a leash
  4. If starting blue, go toad->blue->wolves
  5. If starting red go golems->red->raptors
  6. Start your skills W-Q-E
  7. Most people back after getting their first buff.
  8. Shyv is a power farmer and a duelist but not a ganker, she needs CC in team fights.
  9. Build bruiser or tanky. For starters go devourer, 2 AD items, 2 tank items, and boots. She likes bork and TF for damage items.

shyvana has proably the best clear time of any junglers, but clearing early camps is a pain, once you get trailblazer (wouldn't recommend over chilling smite) . my usual first jungle clear with any champion is

smite gromp, blue buff, wolves, and maybe rocks before backing

if i have attack speed quint w/ a attack speed reliant champion like shaco i go, smite rocks, red buff, wolves, gromp and maybe blue buff. i don't know much about shyvana but she seems like she would benefit greatly from rock smite with the q reduction per basic.

i always skip birds because their not worth the health they take first run, i usually kill them after my first back.
