New meta? APC's have been around for awhile, and tend to dominate midlane alongside assassins. They tend to be burst or utility, sometimes both, and are considered counters to sustained damage (ADC's) while being countered by tanks who soak damage so their allies can burst the APC down (or assassins, who can usually avoid their burst to burst them down first).
