Which Lane?

Whenever I try to play a free-to-play champion (cuz I'm cheap af :P) how do I know which lane to call? I mean, I usually try to watch where other people go, but once, I was Annie and going bot (since I've seen other people do this) and someone on my team was like, "Oh, you can't do that. Annie's a mage, and mages should go mid because they depend on their level" So now I'm confused- is there some unwritten rule or tip on figuring out the best lane? If anyone knows it, can you tell me? Thanks ^-^

u can play some of the mages as supports like vel'koz brand, annie .....veigar etc. and it is better to play fighters in top lane and burst mages in mid lane.. ranged ad champions are considered as AD carries who are suppose to play in bot lane. supports and utility tanks are also in bot lane along with AD carries. i hope this will help

GOOD LUCK IN T HE RIFT

The best way to learn is by observing people that already know. Watching high elo streamers is a great way. I learned by watching LCS matches, Worlds finals is this Saturday. If you want to see where a specific champion is used you can read guides on it such as from Mobafire.

You can also just ask. Annie is built for mid lane, but due to her reliable stuns she makes a great Support (bot lane) too.

Mobafire is good for beginners. The builds on there, don't use those as an all out guide, as a lot of items are situational,

The unwritten rule is typically this: Markman - Bot lane (Sometimes top lane) Mages - mid lane (sometimes support bot lane) Assassins - Mid lane and jungle Fighters - Top lane and jungle Tanks - Top lane and jungle (sometimes support bot lane) Supports - Support

There are exceptions as well as some mislabeled champions in champ select. Like Nunu is not a meta support and is best in the jungle. He should be labeled as a fighter but Riot is pretty lax in terms of relabeling champions. In your case Annie is best mid lane but she is function-able bottom lane as a support. And someone like Teemo and Quinn and Urgot are labeled as marksmen (ADC bot) but nobody plays them there. They all go top. Usually. And also Teemo is more AP damage than AD anyway.
