So, I know that the recently upgraded warding trinket does the same thing as a sightstone, and I was wondering if it is worth it getting an extra item and not a sightstone as support while getting the trinket right away at level 9, or rushing sightstone to get wards as soon as possible but not getting the extra item
Part of your job as a support is denying vision as well, so you'll need a sightstone when you grab the red trinket.
I would say sight stone and red trinket is important for a majority of the game. For most of the game, vision denial and control is incredibly important. This is best accomplished with the sight stone to place wards and red to clear them.
In the super late game when teams always stay grouped out of fear of the enemy team, then it might be okay to sell sight stone and switch the trinket back. My thinking is that in this very late stage of the game, it is more important that you know where you opponents are and less important that they know where you are. It may be more beneficial at this point to switch to a different item at this point.
