How do you trade with Riven?

HoverBacon·12/20/2014, 2:37:56 AM·3 votes·3,309 views

Every trade just seems to end up in her favor because of her low CD stun, her Q combo and her shield. If, by chance, you do somehow come out on top, she can just dash away.

How do you trade with her?

Last game I was Tryndamere, and I just got pooped on, TBH. Any engage was a losing proposition. The jungler tried to help but between flash and dashes, nobody was going to catch her before she was under turret and any possible engage became a suicide dive.

Thanks, HoverBacon.

If I'm having to play against a Riven, I usually play Darius. Every she starts coming towards me, I Q and start to walk towards my turret. So that if she does pursue me, she takes damage from myself, ALONG with the minion waves hopefully attacking.

Never all out against a riven unless you know you WILL beat her.

I will also take Vlad against a Riven, even though she apparently counters him. I find that Vlad's wave control makes it very easy to freeze the lane under the tower. Constantly poking the Riven with Q and E. Always, ALWAYS run from her. Never stand and fight. You'll lose. Just don't lose to her early on and you've got a good chance.

Jax = counter start e and when he goes in e and you wont take minion damage but he will + you will return all the minion damage from your e to him with 2 autos this is at level one. The trade is better for jax then riven. Never push your land, last hit and let him push you without losing level 2 advantage if possible but if you noticed that he is going to hit level two just wait for the "minion rebound" to hit your tower level up and do the e combo when the amount of creeps are = again. EZ Life EZ Game Getting Countered Like Tryndamere When you get countered you are still at the mercy of losing but you can do things that ensure you don't lose lane like... Cloth armor 5 pots first items Start Q level 1 auto everything, not just last hit, as tryn you can raise your red bar for even more health with you 5 pots **After the first wave **of yours dies sit at tower you will turn level 3 under tower you may not have to much farm but jungle should by that time have red and rotate to kill riven. **On the first gank **you need bot secondary up and ready and all your 3 spells, remembering you and riven haven't been back to shop and item up so you with your jungle will out damage him. Gank doesn't happen- Call him up asap has you get to lane so he knows to gank IF he still doesn't come you sit and farm under tower remembering that once he uses a spell like q the one he max first then you know you can go last hit minions. Losing tower should be a good thing for he will try for Tir 2 tower and mid and jungle can both roam and kill.

hope this helps

Itemization plays a big part in winning trades. Even at level 1 when you're first buying

catch riven after her 3rd Q. if she used her shield and stun beforehand, even better.

since you're playing tryn. chances are shes going to stun you then shield away, just E after her and pew pew pew. you have roughly 2 -> 3 secs of free time until her Qs come back. use it however you please.

use mocking shout wisely. beforehand for the AD reduc. or while chasing for the slow. either way. its a win-win skill. as long as u use it wisely.

Ok, lot's of people have tons of trouble with Riven, me included. What you need to do is be safe, at least for the first 5 levels or so, as Riven is VERY strong with just her QW combo. She can usually shield a lot of poke, so you just gotta keep hitting her harder. As Trynd, it seems like it would be easier, but I guess everyone has trouble with her. As Trynd, always tower dive, ALWAYS. Tank for your jungler, ult yourself, and make sure Riven dies 1-2 times early. She has one short hard CC, which your ult will last through. As for 1v1 against Riven, you really shouldn't.

ive heard garen can do good against her, i know mao just wrecks her after he gets 6 especially if hes running tele and ignite. olaf does good. quinn does okay. and then you have trundle who can out-trade literally anyone melee

Garen isnt a bad choice. anytime riven initiates just spin, and his silence not only messes with rivens combos, but also reduces the chance of her dashing away.

Cho'gath also has a silence that can interrupt riven combos. even when you are pushed back to your turret just ult minions to gain stacks. the health bonuses along with tanky builds at 6 stacks and riven is helpless as her cooldowns match cho'gath's in time length so as long as you land your silences she can do anything to you, just wail till her first Q then use silence, and it goes on cool down.

Play Darius, Garen or Aatrox for an extreme early advantage Irelia to outscale (provided you can deal with her pre-6 and know how to take advantage of your stun) Darius' Q if she gets too close with Qs, E in after her E to escape, W to slow her. Darius favors longer trades, keep her with you and back off before her Q is off CD again (most rivens will space their Qs out so theyre hardly on CD at all, but early you can't do that) Garen has insane sustain, a silence that interrupts her and his whirlwind forces her to stay away. Aatrox has poke and sustain she can't match as well as a Q knockup and E slow in combination with the passive if she dives. Irelia and riven are considered an even lane but irelia outscales her really badly in the mid-game, so farm and just don't feed this lane.

Tryndamere's a pretty weak pick in top lane vs assassins as they favor forcing short trades constantly and he can't keep up with his weak early sustain and need to keep his rage up to trade effectively.

force her to use her abilities to get close to you. If she's able to cast, attack, cast, attack, she's maximizing her damage potential. Also, pay close attention to when her leap combo is on cooldown, that is when she has the least dps.

Most Riven players will use her abilities to farm at some point in lane. When this happens you need to make them pay for it and make her eat some damage. Other than that you need to do what you can to kite her abilities and try to trade when you think she has used too many to gap close on you.

pre-6, you have a disadvantage. after 6, you have an advantage. try to keep your lane frozen near your side, and keep track of her cooldowns. you can trade with her using spin if her stun/3 q's are down pre-6. when her cooldowns are up after -6, you could potentially kill her going all in, if done correctly.
