Is velcro a good support?

Strongly disagree. He has a long-range 70% slow, and a medium-range knockup. It can be used offensively, but I find it's better used as really strong peel or kite.

You can't take vel support with any comp; if you don't have a beefy top and/or jg, you need a beefy supp. Also, some ADC's sync terribly with him; Tristana, for example, since he can never follow or contribute to her engages or escapes.

That said, he can be really powerful with a decent variety of comps, assuming you have your bulk elsewhere. Try him supporting vayne, ashe, or varus, since their CC or high damage goes well with his own.

The main reason vel support is strong, is because his high base damages make him strong without any gold. Throw Q's when you have a good opportunity (don't try too hard with the splitting mechanic if you find yourself missing, but do get comfortable with it) if they try to engage, throw a quick E+W combo to knock them back and punish them with a ton of damage. After that, they'll either back off, or you and your adc can crush them.

My preferred Vel supp set;

start 2x Vel's poke is really long-range, with a short CD, letting you proc spellthief's pretty regularly. A lot of times I end up sitting on that mana pot, but I always regret getting another health pot instead.

first B, get some and start building towards . This lets you spam your poke like crazy, for only 900g.

then, , swap trinket to . Get around this time too.

Don't sell until really late; you'll be poking a lot.

After this point, go ahead and finish for the CDR and insane mana regen, then .

I cannot emphasize enough how brutal Liandry's is on Vel; all skills but your W proc the double damage. With the 2.5 second slow on Q, that means you're burning 10% off their HP with each Q landed, excellent for safely softening up tanks and squishies alike before a fight. Even better, your ULT applies a 20% slow for the duration, burning 10% off the ult's duration, and another 6% after that. 300hp doesn't hurt, either.

Then, . Ignoring 30MR? yes please. after that if they're building more MR, if not, or if you're just taking uncomfortable amounts of focus.

You'll notice that after early-mid game, you kind of stop building like a support. That's the fun part; you still do the supporty stuff you did before, warding, peeling, kiting and poking, but you roll pretty well into a strong AOE tank-melter teamfight-flipper for the mid-late game. Again, it doesn't work with every comp, but it works really well when you do have a good team for it.
