Frozen Heart on a Squishy Support?

I was just wondering, should a squishy support like Sona buy frozen heart? I think the range is too small so I'd have to stand in an unsafe spot, so I'll die pretty quickly. But my friend kept telling me that it's my job. So I'm confused, help guys?

do you like to have extra mana, cdr, armour and an aura on top? then get frozen heart.

Frozen Heart is an OK finishing pick, if you can afford it and have your core items. She gets more out of AP, though.

Sona has to go to unsafe spots to make use of her auras, and even if you don't wanna get that close, enemies WILL put themselves that close to you to hurt you. So on a defensive point of view yes Frozen Heart is 100% viable in any situation you feel you need any of its components. It's very expensive and not a gold efficient item, but saying that I also don't think you should not consider it. It's in game impact could easily out weigh the "effectiveness" concern about it. 20% on a tanky item is worth it imo on most champs. Sadly that item slot tends to go towards a more optimal choice.

no, as you´d still die quickly. To get tanky you need health and defensive stats, only one wonßt do much for you. With Sona just go for AP and improve your positioning, once you have some ap and levels her e allows for very quick movement in combat and you can dodge almost anything while staying close to the front.

Absolutely! And all these remarks about AP - you need to be careful! If you're considering buying frozen heart already in game, ap is only going to be wasted. I tend to buy frozen heart for it's passive. Since you will be mostly in the mid to back line frozen heart can be super effective against auto attacking front liners like Irelia or Master Yi. Typically the safe Sona build is a very traditional support build, but I would definitely consider buying frozen heart if I can take advantage of the extra armor and passive reduction!

Honestly, everyone here is right, but it depends on many factors, including but not limited to...

  • Team comp - Does the other team have many AD champions? If so... then item 3110 might do the job. If they only have one AD champion who is unfed, then you may want to pick up the item 3105 or item 3190 instead. I once played a Sona full tank with item 3065 and item 3083 . It was not traditional, but our team was in need of a tank, so I filled the role.

**** Side note some supports such as Sona need to build around what the team needs. However some supports are kind of "stuck" in certain roles based on their "kit" but the items that can be bought can help fit the Champ into what the team needs.

*Are You Fed? - In terms of Sona and AP items... If she is not fed, and has a KDA ratio of 1/5/7, then she should build items that will buff her team, slow her enemies, and be Mrs. Utility. However if she got 3 early kills and it is mid game. . . Then YESSS Build item 3057 into item 3100 then maybe other AP items...
