How do you deal with Jayce?

(I personally think Jayce has a bit too much in his kit, but that might just be me)

I'm trying not to turn this into another "QQ Rito nerf plz" thread, but I honestly can't think of reliable counterplay to Jayce, unless you have really strong double-layered initiation or super strong 100-0 potential with sticking power and high out-play potential (ie. LeBlanc, Zed, Fizz). He has very strong poke (that's also AoE and pretty hard to dodge given it goes faster, deals more damage, and has a larger AoE through the acceleration gate), also has tank stats on his melee form, a strong gap-closer to initiate on you, as well as %HP self-peel. Basically it's hard to fight him at range since he's known for his poke, and it's hard to fight him at melee range since he's got a very strong kit for that as well.

zed does well against him, but normally he makes lanes into farming lanes

I play Jayce all the time, and to be honest, IfritsBackHurts is right. The whole fighting scheme as Jayce is based on his and his opponent's ability to get in and out of combat. Jayce is only able to succeed in laning if he is able to pick his fights. I normally farm in canon form, since I can stay back and behind my creep and poke with my E/Q combo, and when the enemy is low enough, I pick my fight when I can go in with the hammer and finish them off. If Jayce is playing against an enemy champ with the ability to get in and out of combat effectively, then Jayce can't pick his fights. Although I am not a pro, I can try to help at least :D

well jayce is typically a top laner and you wont find fizz / LB / zed top too often now adays since he seems to be a FOTM mid champ now. With that said, ive countered jayces with renekton, riven, and yasou many times.

you need champs who can get in, hard CC him or hit him hard, then get back out.

jayces real damage potential comes from people who engage and stay engaged in a fight instead of learning how to get in and get out.

his range is laughable, you can dodge his gate shot all day long if you don't stand in the middle of a creep wave, and his other damaging abilitys really aren't that strong

if you see him go hammer, back up because hes most likely gonna jump onto you.

you gotta learn to dance around his cooldowns and abilitys

Any top laner with a hint of sustain beats him, especially early game. If he wants to harass, he'll go oom pretty fast. And building a tear, contrary to popular belief, actually hurts his DPS in the long run.

jayce is only a big threat if you don't know or unable to avoid power ball.

You gotta pick someone mobile, preferably with a way to re-engage after Jayce uses E.

If you're playing an immobile melee you're gonna have a bad time. He's specifically designed to counter them, much like Nidalee and Karma. You gotta be really good at this game (or your opponent has to be bad) in order to outplay the above with an immobile melee. If you must, invest heavily into movement speed items and/or CDR.

Silences also help against all of them.
