The thing is if you go through even just the first page of the TFT Gameplay Board, you see complaints about Gunslingers. However, you also see complaints about Glacial, Demon, Yordle, Assassins, Ninjas, Nobles, Elementalists (less often now that the Golem has been nerfed), and Brawler (Volibear centric), Blademaster (Draven). That's like two thirds of the roster. If there are so many strategies are "broken" then maybe "broken" isn't the right word, "viable" is. And that's the goal, right?
As for items, if you don't get the right items, you certainly have a hard time, but team composition trumps items at least enough to get you into the top 4-5, which means you should be moving up fairly consistently if you're better than the players around you, even if you're experiencing poor item RNG in some games.
I mean, it really does sound like a personal problem, given everyone with actual skill is doing just fine.
