Defensive items feel significantly worse than offensive ones

I often feel like if I only get negatron cloaks, armors, and health items that my gameplay seriously suffers compared to when I, or my opponents get offensive items.

The defensive items can be really good, but they seem more situational than the offensive ones that just seem mostly good no matter what. In a mode where that isn't up to you, though, getting stuck with all defense really hurts.

Fam, have you ever built a warmogs or dragon's claw?

Defensive items are great. You just have to build the right ones and put them on the right champions.

Not really any more situational than offensive ones are, either. Just situational in a different way.

Luckily it looks like Riot agrees! Here are their changes currently, and they've got (in general) a theme of hitting the biggest outliers and buffing the base defensive items. Two very strong defensive items (Dragon's Claw and GA) are nerfed, but all the rest are buffed by those stat increases to Chain Vest and Negatron Cloak, and the reduction of some offensive stats also helps buff defense.

-All Spatula Items: No longer give double stats -Chain Vest: 20 Armor -> 25 Armor -Deathcap: +50% AP -> +75% AP -Dragon’s Claw: 75% magic reduction -> 50% magic reduction -Giant’s Slayer: 5% Max HP true damage -> 8% Current HP Physical damage -Guardian’s Angel: 500HP on revive -> 400 HP on revive -Ionic Spark: 125 true damage -> 100 true damage -Luden’s Echo: 180dmg -> 150dmg -Negatron Cloak: 20 MR -> 25 MR -Recurve Bow: 20% AS -> 15% AS -Red Buff: Gains 2% max hp true damage on hit in addition to its burn -Zeke’s Herald: 15% AS -> 20% AS

Actually I disagree. IMO PD is one of the best items, works very well even on ADC/APC. Dragon’s Claw was OP but after nerf it's just OK. Thornmail can kill ADC. Warmogs was the best for shapeshifters, but in set 2...hmm.
