Person who came in first had 90 life and 5 tier 3 champions, whereas I didn't get offered a single tier 3 champion the entire game.
They also had 5 completed items. How am I supposed to win exactly? This game is barely tailored around "who is the better player", it's legitimately all about luck.

Kassadin, Lucian and Tris are pretty common. He highrolled probably after Krugs, risky but you see it worked.

It's quite impossible to know what happened that game based off a screenshot, but I can say that based off the comps of you and the winner are quite bad and not optimized, like at all, that there is probably an issue of skill here. If all you think the game is, is who can get rank 3s faster while hoping for the components for the best items in the game, then of course the game is going to be purely luck to those players.
Pretty sure you could of won if you had a 3rd Shapeshifter so your Swain and Gnar could of carried though if their Pyke had enough items to spam their stun I guess there isn't much you could do. Carrying a lvl 1 Brand and lvl 2 Lissandra just for elementalist just weakens your overall team because they aren't good individual units by lategame at that point(Brand isn't horribly bad but there are a lot better choices since he isn't lvl 2) and the Golem is less useful the more teams build up their dmg and Kha'zix is just kind of "there" as in he jumps to the back and gets killed because he doesn't have anything working with him and he's worse late game because champs are rarely isolated with more in the lineup. You only big frontliner is Darius until your Shapeshifters transform but by that time they probably are almost dead since you have 1 Darius and Golem tanking.
3 star are overrated i mostly win or lose based on comp synergy even when only one or so are 3 stars
p.s : getting a legendary to 2 stars is harder then getting commons and uncommons to 3 stars imo , heck i got more rares [blue] into their 3 stars more often then the number of 2 stars i had in my tft gaming [it was only 2 times tbh, once with hasafeed and once with kayle]
