Haha maybe you're right, because there are a lot of issues with this game as it is now, but perhaps taking it the new direction altogether is exactly what they need, and to expand their studio size and/ or locations.
While I have my doubts of their ability to do so, only time will tell, and only if they try to do it...can we know for sure. Otherwise we just keep having doubts of their potential until they can show us that they can pull it of nicely! While I look forward to the Lore possibilities, my expectations and hopes of their efforts are minimal, so I most definitely don't hold them to this despite the mass profit they can make off committing to this...however, I can say that if they do commit to this at some point eventually, that I would be surprised and very happy!
It's just that I don't expect it at all really from Riot (dedicated, committed efforts wise), so I may just forget I suggested all this until I see it officially become something. At least I pointed it out though, for them to consider. I will say that if Riot is not interested in the commitment to do so, maybe they can offer another Company to make the new IP, or Full Retail game in general, such as a League of Legends RPG made by Bethesda for example, even though Bethesda would never do this since they are so busy with their Star Citizen and Elder Scrolls projects, it's still a good example company skills wise (should Riot grant them Licensing rights). If none of this happens ever, well then at least it's not my company, because I would be bored working on a game like League of Legends, because it's the same repetitive game build strategies over, and over. It's a very competitive, yet repetitive experience. It's in this way that expanding on the Lore in a bigger way, by taking League of Legends a new gaming direction can have a lot of benefits and profit for them...however I would rather work for games like Grand Theft Auto (Rockstar) or Elder Scrolls (Bethesda) since they are better, and more fun for players to experience together. Which if Riot took League this new direction, it's possible I would want to work for their company, but as it stands now, there's no way I would enjoy working for Riot, mostly because I am not fascinated by this League of Legends everyone loves, however I do play it from time to time, but nowhere near if it were an RPG experience or something like League of Legends done in a Grand Theft Auto format, yet with pure League of Legends content instead, while set in a League universe. Even a Zelda format, but for League of Legends would be awesome if done properly, given the Lore potential that is here to expand on.
League of Legends may be popular, but so are towels and toilet paper, which League of Legends can just be a very boring experience sometimes, and forgettable. It's a game I can come back to once in a while, but then when the boredom hits, I don't come back unless it's after so many updates or changes. It's in this way, perhaps an entirely new direction for League based on its Lore potential is all it needs to make something that isn't so repetitive or an easily forgotten experience.

Gnar fighting/ Potential interesting engaging, and unexpected fights or battles (close and personal/ memorable moments) etc...
(The worlds don't have to be entirely open world, but just portions of it to explore, similar to God of War 2018, where the map felt free roam, but still the main objective was fairly linear or backtracking into new regions on the same big map, which can allow for sharing many stories for each Champion as the players play through their story on a fairly big map size that makes the point clear for each Champion, while also noting Champions that can share a world for the story, so that there doesn't have to be a world for each Champion, thus more Champions can be apart of the new direction of League of Legends possible in the near future. Image examples above from Mass Effect and Elder Scrolls...)
(Class Type suggestions, and possibilities for Champions to expand their arsenal or race variant skins based on how the story develops. The Link Below in some comments such as my own, can provide ideas even to expand an arsenal, but in the Link it's mostly to justify who could be potential Brawlers or Warriors/ Blademasters for TFT. I do however feel in a new gaming direction, Olaf would be a capable Warrior who can utilize Bow and Arrows as well, so this could be very interesting for League fans and newcomers flooding/ pooring on in, like no other!
