The game doesn't force you to do anything. IF you're following suite and investing in what allegedly everyone else is gunning for you're hurting yourself. If I see 3 people go for Kogmaw Skarner and Warwick im gonna steer clear of them.

the game actually does force you to play certain comps. That's why you sometimes can't roll a single unit for a build you want (because it's not included in your pool). It's a lot like playing cards in sometimes the cards you want are at the bottom of the deck and you're not likely to draw them.
