No they didn't. 100% double cast was enough.
A secret to combat mages: use 2 crystal as tanks.
For sample Ashe and Taric can shut down the entire mages team.

The Poison comp also works with 4 Glacial instead of Mystics - at countering the 6 Mages comp. And that - while he had 9 units of which 3 were lvl 3 - while all my units were lvl 2 and only 8 of them.
