Isn't the new ranked TFT system easily exploitable?

Now: I know that this mode won't be nearly as competitive as LoL, I know the scenario I will paint is not nearly as likely to happen as in LoL (where boosting&shit are a real plague), but still... If you can queue up as 3 in a "free for all" mode...what's stopping you from gathering 2 friends that don't care about their ranks (or that you bribed with the promise of a skin or w/e) and telling them to play only to ensure you will do as good as possible? For starter: that way you can almost NEVER end 8th or 7th (unless you ROYALLY fuck up) and that by itself is a HUGE deal, a MASSIVE one (you are left with 6 possible placements, 4 of them granting lp and only 2 of them costing a small amount of lp) Then there is the fact that you can play a comp and tell the others two to rack up all the champs of the comp that counter yours, making it way less effective for a third player. Then there is the fact that you can rig the carousel to a certain extent, not needing to go THAT low to be sure to be the first to pick , etc, etc, etc.

I'll repeat: I really don't think that so many people at the start will go that far in order to boost their chances, but in the middle/long terms that could become a BIG problem.

Its an RNG game and you're fighting players trying to win in a free for all

The only way someone can help you win is by inting and if they do that they'll derank. Wintrading might be a thing there but the thing is it should be very obvious if people are queueing together and inting and boosting is against ToS (At least for SR). If someone is caught you can report it to support.

At the end of the day though if two people aren't picking units from the deck, there's more units available for everyone. People will be finishing 3 star units and its going to be a high lethality game. That can easily backfire on you especially given you have no control over the units you get. Another issue might be the two inting players grabbing units that everyone but your friend has, but yeah.

Personally I think if duo queue is ok for solo queue ranked then it shouldn't be an issue here. 3 might need to be trimmed down at some point but you are active competition for each other and one's ability to actually influence the win of another player is incredibly limited.

First, don't forget that they are 5 other players trying to win and that you don't choose who to play against each round.

Secondly, It's not like league where you can control your champ and let your friend kill you. There is also the fact that the game will always take champs from your bench and put them in the arena if you don't have enough (so you can't play with less champs than your level). Your arena is also locked before you can see who you are playing against (so you can't sell last minute). The only way to guarantee your loss is not to buy anything (keep an empty bench) or only put tier 1 units with 1 star. But that also means that you'll take massive damage from all other 5 players (you only have 2/7 chances to face your allies) and will die before even facing your friend. If you want to survive to help him later, you need a decent team, and that might make you win against him if you face him.

Thirdly, If they keep going for 7th and 8th place (to leave you with 6 possible placements), they can easily derank so you won't be able to keep playing with them. Plus, they will be detected/reported and banned easily if they do something that obvious. Same thing if they group to block someone in the carousel, they can be reported and then banned quickly.

If they buy your counters and keep them on the bench while putting 1 star units on their arena, they will take massive damage from other players and might die super early so their impact in helping you or denying others will not be that big (especially since nobody knows how his team will look late game). If they put them on their arena, they might face you and make you lose HP.

I'm not saying that there is no way to help your friends or boost them. I'm just saying that the impact will be very small and rare due to the nature of the game.

What do you think?

I agree with the OP. For now TFT is laid back and it's maybe not that big of a deal, but the longer this mode stays out the more "serious" it will get and allowing 3 premade's is too much for a "free for all" map.

SR, ARAM, TT, are NOT intended to be free for alls. So the comparison about ranked allowing solo/duo is not valid as the intention of TFT is winning a free for all battle.
