What is the average TFT rank/elo?
I'm bronze 3 on this account and keep playing against plat 4. And I can't seem to find any bronze even silver in any matches. If in league of legends the average elo is bronze-silver, this does not translate to TFT.

Platinum is deadass in the middle of the ladder. So it would be safe to assume the game, dividing the top and bottom 4 players as winners a losers, as a coin toss.
If you win, being top 4, your rank points towards Diamond with the opposite being true for the bottom 4 players.
So if the average winrate for a TFT player is 50% or they have a 1 in 2 chance of being a top 4 player then it would be no surprise that average TFT players fall into Platinum.
With winrate skewed based on the luck they get in the game. Item drops, champion rolls, match rotation, etc.
I just started playing ranked and I've been a bit puzzled by the fact that I'm having to play against all plats and golds as I climb out of bronze and now silver. Is this normal? I'm not even sure it matters. I've whooped grandmaster players in normal and been beaten badly by silvers from time to time. I'm not really convinced there's that much difference between ranks really.
I've been high silver/low gold for a long while now, and don't think i've ever seen a platinum. Are you sure you aren't mistaking silver for plat, and iron for silver? I don't even see many golds, i'm silver 1 and it's usually throwing me against bronze, which really sucks because when you lose against lower ranks you lose a LOT of points, but since it's mostly RNG based the odds of winning/losing against plat is about the same as win/lose against bronze. It's great the rare games i get against a bunch of gold, because i typically win and get good LP from it. Thankfully they seem to have evened out LP gain/loss, so it's not 19 for first place, -48 for 8th
