[PBE] [CLARITY] Please rework the start-of-game gates

1/16 PBE Update

Context: On the PBE, the gates that keep you in the fountain have gotten the same visual treatment as the base gates.

Every player will soon know that you can't walk through the floaty things that lock you into the fountain. That makes it really confusing (for new players especially) when you find out that you CAN walk through the base gates that look exactly the same.

The band-aid fix is to simply revert the update. However, I believe this is actually indicative of a bigger issue, which is, that the current base gates don't look like you should be able to walk through them. This is in part because they look so solid, and in part because they behave visually like a wall. I'm used to the following train of thought: If I can't see through it, I can't walk through it (with the exception of bushes, but that's because they're so much lower to the ground).

So, my in-depth suggestion would be:

  • Remove the floating pieces from the base gates.
  • Make the colored part go a little bit higher. Eg, look more like a force field that'll stop my champ from going through than a force field they can step over.
  • Allow champions to see through their own team's base gates.
    • I don't think this'll be a HUGE buff because, most of the time during sieges, either team has a ward on the other side, anyway.

Cheers, Graff

Unless I'm forgetting something, you only see the barrier stones on a gate you can't go through. By adding the stones to the starting barrier, it re-enforces that idea.

I also agree with Minarde, that the start barriers should be the other team's colors. This would help cement in why you can't leave (the other team isn't letting you).

I think it'd be kinda neat if they just swap the colors on the fountain wall: put a red barrier on blue side, and blue barrier on red side. The contrast with the surrounding color scheme should draw attention to the barrier. Combined with the properly-colored base gates (i.e. red with red, blue with blue), it could serve as a subtle nudge. An unstated introduction that, say, red side can walk through red barriers, but not blue barriers.

An in-universe explanation could be that the enemy nexus is restricting allied champion movement until the allied nexus/towers/obelisk neutralize the barrier. Throw in a fancy graphical effect if desired.
