Draft Pick "Pick Order"

This is really just going to be me making a short rant, but whatever. You don't have to read it if you don't want to(obviously), so, yeah.

Anyway... I hate idiots who just say "pick order" in Draft Pick. I mean, I realize that its fair and you shouldn't play Draft if you don't want that to happen, but what's especially annoying are those who are one space above you, and you pick at the same time as them. At that point, if you want what they want, its essentially whoever picks fastest. But I hate people who are like, "Pick order, I'm above you", and then just take it. A couple times I've just auto-locked in to get the position I want, somebody said that(basically), and they picked it anyway, and somebody had to dodge.

Its friggin annoying >.>

That's how pick order works. It's informal, but it's necessary to settle disputes. If you violate pick order, you deserve the dodge penalty/the report for not working with the team.

Again, that's how pick ORDER works. You can not want it to work that way, you can dislike it, you can defy it, but that's how it works. The first one gets first pick, the second gets second pick, the third one gets third pick. It's basic logic.

Well then don't autolock and just try to talk it out.

If they autolock in your stead, decide whether to take one for the team, autolock and try to bully him out, or dodge.

There have been times where someone switched with me just because I told them I sucked at top. It happens, try it.

I've had many cases where I try that. Rarely does it work.

People in League(and most of the Internet) just aren't kind. They really don't give a crap if you want to play this lane, or are best at it, and honestly I'm ticked at it. I used to be the better man, I'd take the last thing out, but because of it half the time I get support. I DON'T LIKE SUPPORT. Hell, I can't even use pick order! I swear half the time I try Draft some guy comes in and, "[insertlane] or troll", and hell, he sticks to it. Somebody takes it? He doesn't care, he picks it anyway! Let'em dodge it! I freaking hate it, I can't even do a Draft pick without it being screwed over. And I hate team builder or blind pick, because then you just get countered by pure chance. Heck, in blind pick everyone fights over one freaking lane and then three of them autolock it and somebody has to dodge for the twentieth fucking time that day!

.... I just realized I've been ranting this whole time LOL anyway, seriously it ticks me off, and I've tried to be the better man, tried to be nice, and it never works.

If they're above you they get the pick before you. That's how it works.

Riot has that official stance somewhere, they explain the reasoning. I've never read it but feel free to look it up.

If imagine the primary reasons are: It's easy - the order is right there for everyone calling is troublesome as I could call it before you enter the room and you don't see my call.

The only time I have a problem with it is when you're picking at the same time and the other guy says nothing and picks with less than 5 seconds left. At 15-20 seconds I'll ask where they're going, I'll pick at 10 seconds if I get no response and lock in at 5 seconds. I agree those people are bothersome. In general if the person is above you in Draft they get pick before you.

Blind pick is screwed up. Its worse than Draft, in which case people just autolock 24/7 whether someone already locked in or not. And, I honestly don't know why you're defending people like that. I mean, they pick at the same exact freaking time as me, why should their pick be above mine? Why can't I autolock just like them? Mmmm?

If you're the last one to pick, try to fill a niche in your team that hasn't already been filled. If everyone's picked and something stands out as a deficiency in your team composition, try asking for another player to fill the gap, or change roles to embrace that responsibility yourself. Remember, that by taking on a role you don't normally play, you'll learn more about unfamiliar champions and increase your own skill level."

If you are an autolocker, you are part of the problem. No one owes you a role. You have to be the one to work it out for your team because no one else will.

Okay? So, if I pick a lane and me and another guy picks at the same time, if I'm a scrub and autolock, the other guy shouldn't be a scrub too, right? He should follow the Summoner's Code and be the man, do you not agree? Now obviously I should be the better man as well, but if we're both the better man it just comes out as "You can have what you want!", "No, you can!", "No, you take whatever you want.", "But I'd feel bad taking what you want. I'll take whatever is left.", "No, its alright."

No seriously, that's happened before where people just constantly try to be nicer to one another and they don't pick until the timer is almost up.

Secondly, what if I'm stuck like that, two last picks, and there's top and jungle left. I suck at top. But, I main jungle. Say we both want jungle, but the other guy is good at top while I'm not. Who gets jungle? It should be me, right? Well, apparently not. I've had situations like that before, and no matter what, the other guy would pick what he wanted anyway.

I think LoL would be much better if everyone tried to work things out instead of trolling eachother. I feel like that would be a welcomed change. I can see the forum posts now "GG rito, this community is too nice."

But the thing is, they don't. They never will. There's always going to be those stragglers that ruin every game, no matter what anyone does about it, unless Riot just starts banning everyone reported for being salty immediately- and even then. So, we can either pick what lane we want and if its taken take a new lane, or we can bitch about it and just take it anyway so that there's two and somebody has to dodge.

Maybe, but if more people made an effort to communicate and work together things will get better. It is like Ghandi said "Be the change you want to see in the world." You can take the defeatist attutide of "Everyone else is non-communicative so I don't have to be", but it really only exacerbates the problem without making any effort to fix it.

I've been reading the posts in this thread and this one in particular seem to highlight several of the problems with them. First off you are making a lot of sweeping generalizations assuming that anyone and everyone that you will ever meet in a draft mode will never work with you. This is simply not the case and excluding any ideas to the contrary does not validate your point.

Secondly you are committing something called TU QUOQUE, a logical fallacy which essentially boils down to justifying your own actions by pointing to the wrong actions of another. Each individual make their own choices. Regardless of other people insta-locking you are still the one choosing to be a positive member or the community or not.

Finally much of your argument relies on drastic extremes. Not getting what you want does not reasonably lead to being so negative that you hope someone will dodge.

I am sorry you have had enough negative experiences to leave such bad feeling in you that you have taken such a negative view of playing with other people. That being said it is still everyone's choice what kind of player, teammate and person they want to be. If you really want a game where everyone is respectful of the lanes other players want it is for you to be a part of that level of teamwork too.

Used to be that whoever called first had it, and everyone worked with that. But since LoL is populated by turds nowadays, the only way you get the lane you want is if the game programming forces them to let you.

Riot made the conscious decision to implement pick order which means top to bottom. The person above you, even if picking at the same time has preference. Thats just how draft works and if you dont like it, dont play the mode!

If they meant for it to be top to bottom, don't you think they'd only let one person at a time pick, and not just the very first and very last pick? Seriously. If they wanted it like that, they'd make it #1Team1>#1Team2>#2Team1>#3Team1>#2Team2>#3Team2>#4Team1>#5Team1>#4Team2>#5Team2, not #1Team1>#1&#2Team2>etc.

That would be less balanced than now, simply. One gets the first pick, the other team gets two in reply is how a lot of draft modes work.

Not really. It would be more balanced, as people wouldn't argue, "but we pick at the same time", because they wouldn't.

OP is right. If two people are picking at the same time, neither one has pick priority. People seem to think it does, but it doesn't. It comes down to whoever calls what. Pick priority is only different if someone is picking at a different time than you.

If Riot wanted it to work this way, they would change the way it's done by doing this.

Team 1 (first position) picks. Team 2 (first position) picks. Team 2 (second position) picks. Team 1 (second position) picks. Team 2 (third position) picks. Etc.

Now, however, it's: Team 1 (first position) picks. Team 2 (first and second position) picks.

The intention isn't even that pick order matters. It's simply a way to balance out champion selection. The intention is not to say that first pick should get whoever they want. Remember, it's a team game. You should work as a team. First pick should work with their team to make sure that the guy that's really bad at jungle shouldn't end up jungling. That's the real problem with this mode. Just because your first pick doesn't mean you should just lock whoever you want. You should use this opportunity to talk with your team to figure out what's best for the team...not just yourself.

OP is correct in saying that if you pick at the same time, neither has priority. However, that's not even the point of draft pick. The point is so that champion selection is even among the teams. The "pick priority" was invented by players later.

A few years ago, in draft, people called like they did in blind. Whoever called mid took mid. Doesn't matter what pick spot they were, and most of the time, everyone respected it.
