The end is inevitable
Well, looks like they won, in a few short days, urf will be but a memory that riot will cocktease us with for another year or more.
If players actually united to try and keep the mode, something could've changed, but instead you get 90% of the community whose part of the brain that registers fun has long since atrophied as they mindlessly click minions for 20 minutes every game downvoting every urf thread because no one needs a new fun game mode in this video game.
They spew out riot's myriad excuses why they can't be arsed to make this game just a little better for people who don't treat escaping elo hell as their daily 9-5.
"Oh it's unbalanced" - So? Put a warning on it telling players not to expect balance and tell them to just have fun. Take away the win loss counter so no one worries about that, and maybe even give the same small amount of IP (or none) to players win or lose so it isn't about getting more riot funbux to buy some dull ass hexagons.
"m-m-m-m-m-meta!!!" - I'm sure if the game mode stayed long enough, any mouthbreathers who care about a meta will be back in their boring ass ranked games blaming everyone else for their shortcomings, and the people who remain will play whatever they want.
"What about maintenance?" - Riot has more money than the combined GDP of several third world countries, I think they can handle hiring a person or two to take care of it while they continue pumping out recolor skins and e-sports propaganda.
"It'll lose its luster" - Good, you're not part of urf's target player base then, go back to ranked, and let people who actually like the mode play it. Seeing URF underneath your queue won't affect you, I'm sure.
Any sane video game company would keep these modes to attract players aside from the neckbeards who one day dream of being in a league with people who play this game 17 hours a day. Riot is a special breed though, more options is bad, we're just going to make cool game modes and hide them all away for 96% of the year, remember to support e-sports.
But ya know, it's okay, it saves me money that I can put toward other superior games that actually keep their game modes around, like Smite. If riot kept urf, I would buy some RP to get some cool new champs, but nope, they made my decision easy. I'll just be here laughing it up at the people who defend these pants on head practices.
