New Champ Ban System

I propose a new champ ban system where each "group" of players gets to assign a ban before they choose champions. For example:

Group A = Blue 1, Purple 1, Purple 2 Group B = Blue 2, Blue 3, Purple 3, Purple 4 Group C = Blue 4, Blue 5, Purple 5

Champ select works as follows:

  1. Group A Blue chooses bans, then group A purple chooses bans (15 seconds allowed per player)
  2. Blue 1 chooses champ, then purple 1 and 2 choose champs
  3. Group B Blue chooses bans, then group B purple chooses bans (15 seconds allowed per player)
  4. Blue 2 & 3, then purple 3 & 4 choose champs
  5. Group C Blue chooses bans, then group CA purple chooses bans (15 seconds allowed per player)
  6. Blue 4 & 5, then purple 5 choose champs

This raises the overall ban number to 10, but it has the following benefits:

  • All players get to ban a champion vs. the current "team captain" mentality, thus making a player more responsible for their own game experience in solo/duo queue
  • Only 3 champions are banned at the start, so "more broken" champions that players may want to play have a higher chance of being played, but they must be picked early and will have a higher chance of being counter-picked by later players
  • While there will be more bans overall, there will be less chance of an entire "category" of champion to be banned out before a player on a team has the opportunity to pick a champion. For example, if you just gave 5 bans at the start of the game, someone could ban practically the entire "tanky support" category of champion, whereas this method would mean that players in groups A and B would still have the opportunity to pick a champion if they realized that one team was trying to ban out that category completely.

Additionally, I wanted to add that the new system would be a confirmation-style system instead of the current "click-once-to-ban." Basically, bans would be treated like champion selection, where you would click a champ, then either click "BAN" or just wait out the timer. That gives players a chance to realize that they are banning a champ instead of selecting it, which seems to all-to-frequently happen in solo/duo queue matches.

From the few times I've played draft or ranked, bans usually tend to fail to please everyone on one team, given the varying lanes, and their respective 'OP' champion. Normally ten I'd say is too much, but there are 120 champions or so, and I could see it encouraging people not only to play more champions, but some of the less picked ones as well. It'd be interesting. Or at least I'd find it to be as much.
