I've been seeing lot of threads about toxicity of early players. That when someone starts a new account they tend to run into lots of toxic players. Some of the stories I hear are quite frankly sickening. The fact is though, more people are kind and nice in this game then rude and nasty, there just happens to be a higher number of toxic players in lower tier/levels. How do we create a more positive new player experience though? An idea struck me. Why not have a new game mode for veteran players called Tutoring Mode. In this mode, experienced players are actually place in these game on purpose. 1 for each team. They would be there to help lead the new players and teach them in person instead of them having to fend for themselves. Someone toxic? When the Tutor knows how to report them and can help the new players mute them as many new players don't know how to mute players. The tutor's report will hold some heavy weight too which I'll get to in a moment.

Now, not just anyone should be able to enter the tutor mode. They have to have a clean record and i think they should have earned 1 or more of the honor badges to prove they have good sportsmanship. They should have at least 1 year experience playing LOL with X number of games under their belt and need to be at least X rank. This would help to insure that they are knowledgeable and friendly.

Once they unlock this game mode and enter one of these games they will be placed in the new player's games to help them learn. They will have a special in game icon that shows they are the tutor for their team so that each team can identify the player with such a great gap in experience. Tutors are supposed to be helping their teammates learn so they get a special grade based on how well their team does but not them. So if they carry the game solo Yasuo/Riven/Whoever with a 20/0/1 record and their teammates have like 1 or 2 kills each they get a very poor score. Nothing changes for the new players except they can see when one of their games has a tutor. A Tutoring game cannot be created unless there is one tutor for each side.

A Tutor will have special pre-game and post-game powers too. Seeing as we will have established that they are respectable players we can allow them to increase champion select time (not infinitely maybe up to double) so they can help explain roles before the game and help new players identify what they would be doing in the game as that role. This can be trolled yes, but remember these are players that earn honor badges so we should have faith in the players that have put forth effort like this as they are improving the community. In post-game if they report someone it should be flagged in some way as they know what they are doing and such honorable player's opinions should carry some extra weight to be checked out.

I'm not sure what else could/should be added but I think having positive experienced players taking a role in teaching our new players would be a great boon to the LoL community; and who knows, maybe it will inspire a lot more players to strive to be better people just to get into tutoring mode.

That sounds awesome! Hell, I have a friend who is ranked that thought me how to play since I was like lvl 5 as a summoner, and he'd be a great candidate for a teacher, I think.

I feel like there's a few problems with it.

  • I don't think being banned 3 years ago should really be a good enough reason to stop a now nice guy from participating.(especially since long ago you could be banned just for playing certain champions)

  • Plenty of nice players don't get badges, I don't think that should stop nice\knowledgeable players from participating,

I feel like the wall of entry will be so high that not many tutors will be playing at once, and queue times would be really high. So it'd need to have a low entry wall of willing tutors. I also feel like regardless of how hard you try, it will always have some amount of trolling. And a system for finding teachers would be better than a queue for it.
