Idea for a neat Champion story: Comes from an alternate reality/world/timeline/etc. (SPOILERS!!!!!)

(SPOILER ALERT FOR BRAVELY DEFAULT AND BLAZBLUE!!!)

Has anyone here played Bravely Default? If so, you know where Ringabel comes from, being a parallel universe version of Alternis Dim. And if you've played any Blazblue games, you learn that Haku-men is actually the original timeline's Jin Kisaragi. Makes for some very interesting stories.

This makes me wonder: Would Riot make a Champion who has such a background? Or is that too complicated?

This wouldn't necessarily be a parallel universe version of one of our existing Champions, but could be completely new. IMO, it'd be a good addition to the lore roster.

I wouldn't say that it's utterly impossible, but given Riot's focus on creating kits before filling out the character and their current narrative approach of using new characters to turn the focus to certain regions of Runeterra it really seems quite unlikely. It's an interesting base for a character, but League of Legends is currently in the middle of a prolonged process of rebuilding and attempting to recentre itself on a single world, so I think it's unlikely that the narrative team would start throwing about concepts like parallel universes when they could make entirely new characters instead.

AU stuff tends to be covered by skins, which are what-if versions of various champions:

Blackfrost Anivia comes from an AU where Lissandra won the Freljord War and corrupted her. Aether-Wing Kayle comes from an AU where she curbstomped Morgana and fixed her homeworld. Creator Viktor, the Battlecast skins, the Steel Legion skins, Bioforge Darius, and Full Metal Jayce all come from the same AU, which borrows a lot from Warhammer 40K. The Dragonslayers all come from the same AU, where dragons and half-dragons are far more common.

These are just the ones explicitly stated by Riot to come from AUs. Many others are simple what-ifs or reimaginings.
