Why are friendly champions and minions immune when Garen spins 2 win, hacking apart everything in a considerable radius? Why are friendly champions and minions immune to Ziggs' hexsposives? Why are friendly champions and minions not affected by Viktor's Chaos Storm or laserbeams? etc. etc.
Answer: gameplay/story segregation.

Because enabling friendly fire would make Singed even more trollish than he already is, if such an extreme is truly possible.
Each group of minions have a different physical composition and react different to substances. So Singed gives both friendly champions and minions a special formula to prevent them from being affected by his poison during the game.
No ability can affect the allied champions negatively(at least not directly),I mean why can garen spin around with his sword without hitting his allies?Why can brand create a flame pillar without hurting his allies?The list goes on.
Originally it was justified by the champs playing in a controlled battlefield,a spell prevented them from hurting each other,to prevent champions that hate each other to "accidently" hit their team mates;) Nowadays it is just a gameplay-mechanic
