Singed is NOT evil and people need to stop thinking so!

He supports the Noxian military, but this is all for money so he can fund his expensive research. Noxus would not take such designs openly and regularly from a criminal as a functioning government, so he's not a crook either and a valuable asset to them.

He's been around for Zaun for a century according to his new lore, which further cements he's not a criminal being hunted down or anything. Furthermore, in his story, he's described as casually shopping in markets or openly walking through crowded streets, meaning he's also probably a familiar sight and no one minds.

Lastly, he specifically targetted Warwick because he identified him as a "cutthroat" (i.e criminal) feigning goodness in a crowd, which in his mind justified kidnapping him since no one gives a shit what happens if such people disappear and you know it's true.

Nothing points to Singed being evil. Maybe from the perspective of an Ionian, but in Zaun he is just an ordinary guy not guilty of anything unless you side with criminals.

The fact that I was listening to Yoshikage Kira's theme from JoJo's Bizarre adventure while reading this made it ten times better.

Singed, due to his aspiration(immortality), will set him down a VERY dark path. It's stated, several times(with evidence to back it up) that he gives zero shits about other people. His craft is all that is important to him. If, said craft cures some diseases or some other effect/outcome in the light of "good", it most definitely wasn't because Singed is a kind, loving man. It would be to further his knowledge of reactions to chemicals/implants so he can do even grander things. All for the eventual goal of achieving immortality.

He is NOT a good man. Far from it. Does that make him a bad character? No. I personally think people like him are needed. Grey and white morality characters can be interesting, but if there is no true threat/something to challenge that said grey/white morality, the stories will get boring, and repetitive.

Yeah no. Not every champion has to be gray or have redeeming qualities. SInged is just not a good guy and can definitely be perceived as evil knowing all the terrible things he has done and continues on doing.

I mean, Zaun itself is full of some pretty bad folk, so saying that he's just an ordinary guy in a criminalistic undercity doesn't really help your case.

Singed kidnaps people and uses them for experiments. Oftentimes, said experiments are brutal and he cares very little for their suffering. Additionally, I don't think he distinguishes between crooks and the innocent. IIRC, his story involving Warwick stated there was another girl in his lab being tested on, screaming. There's just no way you can make Singed out to be a good or even neutral character. Even if you resort to the argument of "he's a vigilante who captures the cutthroats and bad guys of Zaun to experiment on them," that's pretty morally deplorable in itself.

As for your argument of "in Ionia he may be seen as evil but in Zaun he's just ordinary," this is a classic case of cultural relativism. It's pretty easy to dispel with a simple counterexample though:

Rape is punishable by law in the United States, correct? It is an act that is frowned upon in the country and those who are caught committing it face a sentence made to serve justice. But in other parts of the world, rape is considered OK and even legally justifiable under certain circumstances.

What I'm trying to say is that, just because a certain group of people 'think' something is ok and morally justifiable doesn't make it actually ok. In other words, people have differing opinions concerning what's right and what's wrong, but that doesn't necessarily mean there isn't an objective right and wrong, regardless of opinion. So, even if we assume that Zaunites would be fine with Singed as a person and would accept his actions, that doesn't mean they're actually right for doing so, nor does it point to Singed himself being anything but evil.

Evil has nothing to do with laws, You can follow the letter of the law and be evil.

Evil is all about how and why you do things. Are you concerned about what you are doing and the effects on others; if you do not care odds are that you are evil. Evil is about satisfying our personal desires at the expense of something of value that effects others. Evil is and has never been about right or wrong. It is about caring about what you do.

So if you think Singed is not evil, then your probably need to look at your morals.

Depends on opinion. Is torturing a man (and likely many others) worth the incredibly unpredictable monster that looks to clean the streets of Zaun? If not, Singed is evil. If yes... please stay away from me.

He's been around for Zaun for a century according to his new lore, which further cements he's not a criminal being hunted down or anything. Furthermore, in his story, he's described as casually shopping in markets or openly walking through crowded streets, meaning he's also probably a familiar sight and no one minds.

You don't have to be a criminal to be evil. Also, MAYBE, just maybe, Singed isn't messed with BECAUSE people know what he does to people.

Lastly, he specifically targetted Warwick because he identified him as a "cutthroat" (i.e criminal) feigning goodness in a crowd, which in his mind justified kidnapping him since no one gives a shit what happens if such people disappear and you know it's true.

In "Engineering the Nightmare", Singed states he has tried this before. Meaning he didn't specifically target Warwick, he just found him fitting. Also, just because people in Zaun, the city where morals are in every way grey and blotted out in some areas, don't care about some cutthroat doesn't mean that what he did to Warwick was not evil in every way.

You don't have to be a criminal to be evil, or lawful to be good for a matter of fact. Let me introduce you to the wonderful world of the Chaotic, Lawful, neutrality, good, and evil alignment base.

With this base we can take one of three Chaotic, Lawful, or Neutral and match it with one of the other three Evil, Good, or Neutral. The system is basic and has it's flaws. It usually goes off how a character is perceived, but can also be used for how the character views themselves.

Mundo for example views himself as N/G. However everyone else views Mundo as C/E. Singed is a bit more complex. Singed doesn't seem to care about morals so we just have to say he thinks of himself as N/N, everyone who hasn't met Singed likely views him as N/N at best if he has any level of notoriety though in what his experiments entail he is more likely viewed as N/E. He doesn't go around stealing money, but he's not above abducting people that he sees as good subjects, and he is certainly very cruel.

Trying to claim that Singed's morality is the standard for Zaun is futile. It's simply not the case, and we know this because of champions like Ekko, Janna, Viktor, and Zac in addition to City of Iron and Glass.

At most you could make an argument that Singed is chaotic neutral. He is completely amoral, but his current path is leading him to do some very horrible things. Also he chose Warwick because he was sensed that Warwick had an inner monster. If Warwick were just a regular dude with a wife and kids he would've done the same. Singed will do anything to further his research, he does not care if it is good or bad, and unfortunately doing bad is easier for him at the moment.

You are going to have to come to grips with the fact that the character you love and enjoy is several types of insane and evil. And that is fine. I mean, it's bad. But he remains an interesting character. That one can easily sympathise with.

Dexter, the serial killer, from the show. Very Evil. Also conflicted, and nice to his sister and colleagues. Goes to the market, pretends to be a human. Complex and lovable character. Still evil.

GreenLore1/30/2017, 11:40:36 AM1 votes

Being a criminal =/= being evil.

Just because he is evil, doesn't mean he is a criminal.

Also Singed captured Warwick because he saw the beast within him. He knew that Warwick had a murderous site and that was the important thing for him, because he needed that for the experiment.

Noxus in itself is a morally black country supporting war, black magic and any means necessary for obtaining power. Singed kidnapping people isn't a problem in Zaun because the only authority in Zaun are the chem barons. Chem barons = criminal warlords. Of course they don't give a shit.

Tesla Effect1/30/2017, 3:21:27 PM1 votes

He is definitely amoral.

Not every character has to be morally grey. Some characters are just evil.

I witnessed the people who think Jhin is morally grey lul.
