What is it that prompts riot to give either a single champ a themed skin versus giving multiple champs a themed skin? I'm glad the academy skins are coming out, they all look good for their price point. However why are they on multiple champs when there are other themes that would look good on multiple champs but are relegated to a single one?
RiotKindlejack16 votesCurrently lower scope skins are being designed in groups. We brainstorm a theme that could work on multiple champs (Dark/Light Knights, Dinosaurs, House of Cards, Academy) and then choose a bunch of champions that meet some criteria (work well with the theme, will look good without effects/animation support, haven't had a skin for a while). We do a rough spread of concepts of those champions and what they could look like then, based on those sketches, we choose the strongest skins from among them to go into production.
Higher scope skins like Star Guardian Lux require a lot more work from a bigger number of people. A group of 5 star guardians would require a huge amount of work and mean the team couldn't work on any other skins like Legendaries or Ultimates for a long time. So we can do it, but it's it's a big investment in a single theme so we'd have to be very confident that it's a theme a lot of players are going to enjoy.

It always feels like there's a few ideas that one champ has that would look great on some others but if it isn't a pool party, harrowing, or christmas skin, it's less likely to be ported over.

You'll notice skin themes like Guardian of the Sands, Blood Moon, Arclight, Riot, Arcade, Battlecast etc. we revisit when it's a strong theme for a champion. I think it would be great to have at least 5 skins in each theme so you can field a matching team, although sometimes instead of aiming for a full team we give a certain skin to a certain role. For example Headhunter skins tend to be junglers, although with Caitlyn we did break that trend.
Captain Aishi1 votesto be fair, nidalee wasn't a jungler as much as a top laner when that skin came out for her, and akali's more of a midlaner, so rengar's release and Yi are the only ones who 'really' are jungling headhunters (if that makes any sense)
RiotKindlejack1 votesAkali came after Caitlyn when the trend was already broken. Originally, because they were inspired by Predator, they were jungle champions as that is where Predator does his hunting.

Dude i played more than 600 games with DIana, i played once Diana support with a Sivir with Warden skin (last week actually) everybody agree they were almost identical.

Wielding a giant balloon axe, and when he finished his ult, confetti and balloons fall down out of nowhere... It would be the best. You can only imagine how goofy he'd look, lol.
