I am disappointed with this new Nami Skin, and know there will be more skins like it

Here's the link to the image posted by Surrender@20 of the new skin Splendid Staff Nami The one issue with it is that they made her WAYY too human.

Nami is supposed to be a fish with some human like features. Somewhat like a mermaid, but with more scales. Each and every one of her prior skins have been true to this lore, and some skins went above and beyond with the design like Deep Sea Nami where she's re-imagined as a Siren, or Program Nami where she becomes a robotic fish. However, the issue with transforming her into a human is that she loses her identity as Nami. Looking at this splash art, you can see ZERO qualities that Nami possesses in prior skins. You see a few scales under her eyes and just have to assume that the fish tail attached to the lower half of her body (which is hidden by the water in the splash art) is supposed to be adequate. A similar issue happened with Star Guardian Neeko, where her skin is now pale, and her features are more human, ruining her identity as a Chameleon.

If you didn't want to read that paragraph here is a tl;dr: Riot making non-human champs into weeb-bate in newer skins, which is ruining their champion identity, but also making it difficult to differentiate which champion is which.

that's a common thing in this skin line in general, most of the champs look nothing like themselves by their faces

The point of skins is that they don't have to go with the exact same thing already explored in their classic.

Lulu is a lot more human looking in her Star Guardian skin, Fizz has skins where he's a void creature and a dog, Kog has a skin where he's a dog, Yi has multiple skins where he isn't even a human, and Jax has many skins where he actually has a real weapon; the list goes on.

Nami still keeps her fish tail. Just in certain animations she would show human legs for a brief time, indicating some kind of transformation magic which is a very common theme in eastern folklores and epics that this skin line is based on (more detailed aspects are explored in the comment right below this one). But for the most part, she would still keep her fish tail and her silhouette as a mermaid.

If you showed this to someone I doubt they'd even be able to tell she's a mermaid.

Skin looks fine to me skins are supposed to be from alternate universes she doesn't need to be a full on fish I mean they did make Fizz a dog and theirs nothing wrong with that because I can still tell its Fizz. I can still tell its Nami.

Something about it doesn't look like a League splash to me at all. I think it's the shading. I'm still gonna be bothered forever by the colors. It's the exact same color scheme as Janna's and it's so distracting. [sg-janna]

Yeah and Jhin isn't a human in any of his skins. Fuck, he has 2 where he's a robot. In Blood Moon he's likely part demon, and in Dark Cosmic he's an extraterrestrial, 4-armed cosmic God. Closest thing he gets to a "normal human" skin is SKT.

You can live with Nami being more humanoid for one skin, because her being a humanoid fish isn't a universal thing, just like how Jhin being a normal human isn't a universal thing. Champions are going to look different based on what universe their skins are set in. This universe, as others have said, is based around humans and Eastern mythologies and folklore. Thus, Nami looks more human, because in this universe, she is human.

I do think then splash art can do a better job of showing the fact that she is a mermaid/Nami, but the skin itself is fine in the context of the skin's universe.

I mean it’s not supposed to look exactly like Nami; skins usually take a form of an AU universe. I am disappointed with the splash art because

1)its called splendid staff nami and you can barely see it in the splash art. 2)you cant even see her tail 3)it looks like lazy drawing... using shadows and branches AND water to cover up what you are supposed to show 4)I get that adding a lil moon in the reflection makes it detailed but wtfud thats not needed, the details i wanted to see was the staff, AT LEAST THE STAFF 5)if you look at all of nami’s splash art they dont cover her staff 6) it does not look like a league splash art, idk why maybe its the shading and the way they drew the face, when i first saw this i thought it was a fanart

but definitely fine with the skin in game. Just don’t buy it if you don’t like it lol. Honestly it will not be hard to tell in game 😂 but i can only speak for myself ig...
