What is Riot doing with Zed's lore?

So I'm kinda confused/disappointed with this new turn in Zed's lore/character of him apparently destroying nature now? I mean he's always done some pretty villainous things (killing his master and I'm guessing many other people) but ruining nature? That feels really Satruday Morning Cartoon, like Captain Plant bad guy levels. And it doesn't help that we aren't getting anything from his side or more Ionian lore in general (second champion release for Ionia and still 0 lore about the country as a whole, only Jhin and evil cabal and now Vastayans)

I assumed Riot had a good idea about characters being morally grey and that they had pegged Zed as one, given the side of him we saw in the Jhin story, but I guess not. Also it kinda ruins Xayah and Rakan a little now, instead of being the rebels fighting against Ionia as a whole, they are just fighting Zed, which I hardly considering "rebellious".

Just my 2 cents in the whole thing. I really want to know where this new direction for Zed is coming from and why we still don't have updated Ionian lore.

The Ionian invasion changed a lot of people in Ionia, Zed included.

You have to break some eggs to make an omelette. In Zed's case, you have to suck the magic out of nature, to power your spinney ring thing.

Yeah, it's really Saturday Cartoon Villain now. The idea that things are 'morally grey' now is really being taken for granted.

They are turning Zed into a Saturday morning Batman The Animated Series style villain.

This new cinematic is taking a giant piss all over Zed's badassery.

What does it matter really , Zed will never need a visual update or any of that short of thing so you shouldn't complain about him just for lore side and focus on the ones who need updates

He sees power, he wants to use it.....probably didnt account for the Chimeric freedom fighters to intervene.

I doubt Zed's motivations are as clear cut as maliciously destroying things.

I mean, Zed rejected his master's teachings and left before completing his training... Maybe he never fully learned that nature in Ionia is full of life. It could be he only sees it as a resource to draw power from, which would make sense with his temple in the cinematic Riot just released.

He also has gone quite far down his path of darkness. He may no longer be capable of being taught or convinced that his beliefs are incomplete or wrong.
