You killed Varus

You didn't even have to work that hard to fit him into the new lore. You literally just replace whatever the corruption inside the Pit was with a Darkin. It was so simple I could do it.

Instead you take one of the most tragic characters stories in your game and you utterly crush it. People liked Varus because he was a tormented man grappling with the loss of his family (albeit in an unhealthy way) but seeing and hearing about the torment he subjected himself to just for the sake of revenge of his family was interesting to hear. How far would you go to get revenge? Would you damn your own being just to kill those that hurt you?

A man driven to the edge and is peering into the abyss for as long as he can before it swallows him is interesting. Another trapped Darkin that goes around killing people 'cause he likes it" is not. Both Aatrox and Rhaast already do that, why do we need a 3rd Darkin running around and killing just cause? And don't tell me what "the humans inside him are fighting back." they have no identity outside of being Ionian Hunters.

Having Varus take up the Darkin bow for revenge is a powerful narrative idea. It's not even that he wants to beat the Darkin like Kayn does, he wants to inflict as much damage as he can on Noxus before he can't go on anymore. It's not a test of wills, but a running against the clock. How far will he go in his revenge? Could the Darkin influence him like Rhaast does with Kayn? Make him target Noxian civilians or children instead of just soldiers?

The worst part is that you took his name from him. Varus was the man, not the Darkin. To make him the Darkin now totally loses any sense of the original character. I've seen many people mad about rewrites here but I've felt you've always kept to the spirit of the character when it comes to story rewrites (see Viktor or Blitzcrank). But with this there is no trace of original Varus. No tormented father, no tragic figure, no human revenge. Just an angry Darkin.

And we already have two of those. So please while there is time, give us back the Varus we love.

Update* Varus is still dead. And while the new lore is all right (still some gripes about it) the original Varus is gone. RIP

None of his quotes make sense now.

"Beware a man with nothing to lose." "There's no turning back." "I'm on borrowed time."

I mean, seriously? These make no sense with the new lore. Honestly, they should just revert it or just change the word "darkness" to "Darkin" from the original, as you recommended, and the lore will make sense.

Just... I love the story team, but because I love them so much I must be cruelly honest: this lore is terrible and I can see no way of it being good.

I feel like it's gonna be a Pantheon-esque thing. A man driven to desperation with nothing left to lose takes an ultimate risk, and basically gets their body snatched away from them.

Either way, I hope Riot's still able to make it tragic, because that really was a great element of his story.

Apparently the snippet of lore released was a complete accident. Don't go overboard here, remember what happened when they released Jayce's new lore? Everyone had a meltdown because they thought Viktor had changed for the worse. Then Viktor's expanded lore came out and we saw it wasn't nearly as bad as anyone thought. Don't base everything off of what little you have, because the whole picture hasn't revealed itself yet.

The thing is, old Pallus and Varus were much more interesting. Pallus seemed to be somewhat akin to the demon Lasciel in the book Dead Beat of "The Dresden Files", by Jim Butcher

(For all those who dont know, she's a demon in a coin who seems to have a mutual respect of Dresden, and although she wants to merge into dresden's being like Darkin in league do, Lasciel is more like 'ok so like... if you want immense power and shit, ask me. Hell, even if you just want to chat, call my name and i'll be summoned. Yeah i want to turn you into a demon-y person, but i don't have to be a prick about it.")

In the old lore, Pallus the Darkin asks for varus's consent before doing his darkin demon shit, now varus is just SPOOKY MURDER DEMON PANTS MAN

In the old lore, Varus was this sympathetic character, broken and beat down, who wants to get even with the people who did him wrong. Now he's just a psycho going around shooting people because hes mad at the world

Riot doesn't go back on many changes, but I hope this is one of them. At the very least switch the names around, because that would at least fit with his current VO.

Before you even made this post Rioters confirmed that this is just a place holder on the PBE for an update coming out on the 30th.

Its a little interesting (not necessarily in a good or bad way) that there was two people inside Varus.

Riot said that the whole new lore will be out in a week and they'll answer feedback when we read it.

Apparently this went out before it was ready.

I wonder what the color text to go with it this new bio will be like. Hmm...

How is Varus corruption being a Darkin affects his story? Like you just said, his corruption was changed to the Darkin. Isn't the rest the same as before? Didn't he released the Darkin on himself for revenge?

Where can I find this lore update and the others?
