Forhonor3214 votesIf this truly is what we're making it out to be, then this would be a good step for Riot in doing this. Yeah skins don't release with new VGU but who knows, it's Riot's game and they could change or ignore some rules if they wanted or make a special case for Swain since he's getting updated and is in need for a new skin (over 2000 days might I add).
On a whole though, this is keeping me interested in what the rework looks like and thus keep interest in the game (for now)
TeriyakiBaki2 votesPlease understand that not releasing skins with VGU isn't a rule, its just been a common trend lately since they only want to focus on the VGU and not have to come up with a skin too. Releasing skins with VGUs used to happen in Seasons 1-3, Nasus with Infernal Nasus for example.

Oleandervine7 votesBefore last year, their policy had been to only release 1 skin per champion per year, but here we have Jhin who got 2 skins on the regular production run (Blood Moon, then Project) and then Vi who got the same (Warring Kingdoms, then Project). Riot has been throwing their past policy to the wind, so it's now extremely hard to predict what they'll do.
As a note, because I'm sure someone will mention this - SKT T1 Jhin was not on the regular production cycle last year. Worlds skins are special circumstances because they are chosen by the winners, and don't move through the same processes that regular skin concepting and design goes though.

PS: if this is real and VGU's will have a new skin alongside their relaunch, those wad files for nunu, akali, morg and kayle might be their relaunch skins for their VGU. lol i'm crazy.

Even a number of the Rioters wanted it to happen; notably TheBravoRay heavily wanted it to happen. Morello had promised the skin would be done. Years go by, Swain's model rig got considered outdated, and no new skin had been given to him since tyrant.
Consider the meme slaying Riot has been doing with a number of skins (Yorick skin, Beekeeper Singed, Baker Pantheon, Little Devil Satan Teemo), it makes sense for why anyone would be hyped for the skin if they were there when the idea was first upvoted into oblivion.

Robertsmash1 votesFrom a lore perspective at least, Swain is a critical political figure in Runeterra. Any updates/reveals about him and his history almost certainly mean blanket lore updates to Noxus, arguably the most prominent faction and driving force in the world. I'm personally excited for explanations of Noxian philosophy, accounts of political events that affect the world, a more in-depth look at the relationship between different nations, and unprecedented general world building. In a universe where the only regularly released lore snippets are disjointed, unconnected character pieces restrictively tied to champion/VGU releases, waiting for any connected global narrative development is like waiting for a faucet leaking 1 drop a day to fill your empty pool. I'm hoping Swain is a spurt.
I am also prepared for Riot to disappoint me heavily. Just how things tend to go. But you're right, I don't really play Swain.

Robertsmash1 votesWell, increased depth there is kind of the hope - Riot will probably ease up on the black and white, good and bad tropes that Demacia and Noxus have represented. Demacia has had inklings of this progress with their apparent mass condemnation of magic and rigid social/military hierarchy. I'm hoping that Noxus loses its one dimensional status as "bad" and really embodies that philosophy that your race, magic, upbringing, and wealth are irrelevant - the little magical street urchin that would drown in the social oppression of Demacia might rise to respect and high station in Noxus, if they're willing and strong enough to do what it takes. I look forward to seeing Noxus be re-painted as a land of incredible risk, but incredible potential for the ambitious.
rtbf2256182411 votesI look forward to seeing nations embrace or adapt to change. It gives them depth. If not, i'd like to see them get destroyed. For entertainment, since that's all that kind of an establishment is worth to me, from a writer's perspective.
Although, seeing as Demacians hate magic, i'm willing to guess some of them might go to morally questionable lengths to get rid of magic aswell.
Doozku1 votesIf this is true, I'm assuming it would be a legendary skin since the biggest problem with making legendary skins is the VO and they already have Swain's voice actor in the office to do the VO for the VGU so they can kill two birds with one stone, something that Riot loves to do when it comes with voice acting.
IMO this skin release would be a genius move on the business side because hype for Swain is reaching critical mass and if Riot holds up on the promise of Swain being so awesome then so many Swain mains will buy this skin with the VGU and also because of the meme being killed, and new people who get dragged into the hype gravity well will probably pick up the skin on top of the champion because it's new, its killing a meme, and it (if I'm right) would be his only legendary skin.
